Why was most of WWI fought in trenches?

Modern Weapons were much more dangerous and they needed to protect themselves.

2. Why were there so many countries involved in WWI?

Because the different countries made alliances with each other.

3. The U.S. did its best to stay neutral during the war until Germany made what announcement?

That they would be sinking with submarines all ships that entered the area around Britain
