Curriculum Newsletter Autumn Term 2017 Welcome to Year 6 We hope you have had a great summer break and are ready for your final year at Bellfield Juniors! We have a very busy and exciting term ahead. P.E. Both classes will have their weekly P.E. lessons on Thursday afternoons. Please make sure that your child has their named P.E. kit in school, (including pumps, shorts and a t-shirt). They can also bring in a tracksuit or jogging bottoms with a long sleeved top and trainers as we will aim to have P.E. outdoors as often as we can. Please refer to the handbook if necessary. Curriculum Newsletter Homework for Maths and English will be due in on Wednesday. This will be marked and given back out by Friday. Maths homework will be in the form of a given workbook. English and Creative Curriculum homework will be linked to our topic on World War Two. Spellings will be every fortnight on a Monday afternoon. The children have 12 spellings to learn and will be tested once a fortnight. The children are expected to learn multiplication and division facts up to 12 x 12 as part of their homework. Reading Books The children must bring their reading book and book bag to school every day. Please try to hear your child read at least 3 times a week and sign and comment in their Home Learning Diaries. This will enable you to support your child in their studies and help them to achieve their very best. Children will be tested each week as part of the Accelerated Reader programme. If the children do not pass their Accelerated Reader test, they will keep and re-read their book to help them with comprehension skills. When the children have passed tests and earned enough points, they will receive a reading certificate. Children also get an opportunity to use the Library in school every week. If there are any questions please come and speak to us after school. Miss Clay , Miss Blake , Mrs Thatcher, Mr Jones and Miss Haynes
