Communication, Language and Literacy We will be reading non-fiction books about how our bodies work and fictional books about robots. The children will use their imaginations to tell robot stories and describe the robots they create. The foundation stage children will be learning their letters and sounds and how to correctly form letters of the alphabet in the cursive style. The Year One children will be writing instructions about how to brush their teeth and wash their hands. We will have a visit to the doctors and have a doctors and then hairdressers role play area. In the run up to Christmas we will be reading books about toys, have a toy shop and a Santa’s workshop and write letters. Understanding of the world The children will be learning about their health and hygiene and naming parts of the body. We will make healthy food; salad faces and fruit robots. We will learn about Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and learn some simple first aid. We will learn about toys from the past (and have a toy museum- any contributions would be appreciated!) and name different materials that they are made from. We will be finding out how robots and toys work and programming using remote control toys, Beebot, Roamer and ICT software such as Kodables and Scratch. In our theme week we will be thinking about different jobs and our aspirations for the future. During our “Diversity” theme week we will learn how we are the same or different to others exploring beliefs and celebrations. Creative Development In the first half term we will be making 3D robots and creating self portraits using a range of media. In the second half we will be drawing and painting toys and making cone puppets. We will be performing poetry during our “Diversity and inspiration” theme weeks.
