Theme: Festivals and Celebrations River Bank Primary School Foundation Stage Theme: Festivals and Celebrations Communication & Language This half term we will be developing confidence to speak to others during role play activities. E.g. Home corner. We will also be talking about our own experiences and listening to how other people celebrate festivals and celebrations within their families. PSED We have all made lots of friends at River Bank Primary school and really enjoy playing together, but sometimes things may happen that upset us. This half term we are therefore going to be looking at how we can resolve problems that we might come across. E.g. Turn taking and compromising. Expressive Arts and Design We will be creating our own firework pictures in a variety of ways, designing Christmas cards, making clay diva lamps and developing our acting, dancing and singing skills for our Christmas performance! Special Activities We will be going on a trip to Dell Farm to see the nativity acted out with real animals! We will also be putting on a special Christmas performance and going on a walk to post the Christmas cards we have made home. (Details to follow) Understanding the world There are lots are exciting festivals happening this half term. We will be looking at how people from different cultures celebrate and compare this to ways in which we celebrate our beliefs within our families. Adult Initiated Activities Autumn 2 2017 Please help me at home by… Practicing letter and number formation Being able to write their first name independently, starting with a capital letter then lower case letters Continuing to practice getting changed independently (including learning how to turn clothes the correct way) Work on recognising, ordering and writing numbers 0-20 and counting out objects accurately. Literacy We love reading! This half term we are going to be looking at lots of different books. They will all be based around our theme e.g. Weddings, Birthdays and Festivals. We will also be reading words, using the sounds we have been learning within our RWI phonics sessions. Mathematics We will be learning how to write, count with and recognise numbers 0-20 independently. We will be practising counting out a given of number of objects accurately E.g. 9 animals or 13 apples. We will also be looking at how to add two numbers together! E.g. 3+2=5 Physical Development We all worked hard learning to get changed for PE last half term and are now getting quicker at this! We will now be focusing on independence e.g. learning how to turn clothes the correct way and how to zip up our coats or do up buttons without the help of an adult. Please encourage this at home too.
