Architect Selection Process Goals & Objectives Request for Qualifications (RFQ): To identify experienced firms that can provide both quality school design and professional service to the Huntsville City Schools for this project. Interview Require uniform, consistent presentations from all firms and identify firms which can be responsive and work effectively to accomplish HCS goals and objectives. Community Session Solicit feedback from Stakeholders in the Community on their choice of Architect and Design Philosophy that will be the “best fit” for the Community Recommendation to the Superintendent Based on the Interviews, Rankings of the Selection Committee & Community Session: submit to the Superintendent recommendation of most qualified firm for the Superintendent’s consideration and submittal to the Board of Education.
The Architect Selection Process RFQ and selection for Interview Forty (40) Architectural firms state wide were solicited for proposals Twenty-three (23) firms responded TCU, in conjunction with HCS Operations, narrowed the list from 23 to approximately 15 firms The 15 proposals were then given to the Selection Committee prior to the first meeting for their review During the first meeting with the Committee, the 15 firms are discussed in detail. The Committee then narrowed the field of architects to 6 firms. The 6 firms follow a detailed agenda as they prepare for their interviews to the Committee.
The Architect Selection Process Interview Stage Prior to the first interview, the Committee ranks each category with an importance factor In the interview process, each firm is given 30 minutes to present. 20 minutes to introduce their firm and 10 minutes to answer the Committee’s questions Once each firm is done presenting, the Committee enters their grades into a comprehensive matrix spreadsheet that ranks each firm with a raw and weighted score This particular matrix conveyed very close scores in both the raw and weighted categories, identifying the need for an additional round of due diligence
Architect Selection Process Community Participation The “Dot Process” Each of you are being given (6) dots (3 green & 3 red) Only use the allotment given to you. The images are mixed up randomly Traditional Contemporary Place the green dots on renderings you like, and red dots on renderings you don’t. The image with the most Green dots will not only indentify design solutions of the Architect Selection Process, but also help to identify the exterior characteristics of the future school.
