Classroom Jobs Every Monday students will have a new classroom job. Students are responsible for remembering and completing their job for the week. It is important for your child to understand that having a job is a classroom duty and teaches them responsibility. Please give your child a home chore to maintain the classroom direction which I am trying to instill in your child.

Attendance Attendance Please send your child to school on time. School bell rings at 8:35 am. and ends at 3:35 pm. Please let the office staff know when your child is not attending school and the reason why. It is important that your child comes to school every day, well rested, and ready to learn. Regular attendance is critical for your child to achieve his/ her highest potential. Academic learning takes place all day and students who arrive late or leave early miss valuable instructional time. It is your child’s responsibility to make up any missed work. Attendance

Behavior/ Rewards/Consequences Behavior Chart: I use a behavior clip down chart to help monitor student behavior. At the end of the day, I record what color your child is on and use Class Dojo. If your child clips down to red, he/she will be sent to the office and phone calls will be made to parents. I will send a think sheet home when needed. Rewards: There are rewards and incentives if your child earns certain points. Also, we have table points that help with student behavior and team work. The last thing I use is the marble jar. If students fill up the marbles to a certain colored line they earn a class reward. Consequences: Please continue to speak with your child about school rules and how to behave. There will be consequences if your child misbehaves, has incomplete work, missing homework, planner not signed, and unprepared for class, etc. Class Dojo: Please sign up by using the code I sent you. This will help track your child’s behavior and how your child is progressing in class. Also, you can send messages and take a look what's going on in the class. Students write numbers on their hw papers and classwork papers to show parents and I what they understand.

Class Dojo While students copy their hw, I am checking for hw completing and signatures/ planner notes.

Homework Take Home Folder: Your child will be taking home a yellow take home folder every day. Please look through the folder daily for important notes, newsletters, homework, and school work. Homework: Your child will receive homework daily. Please make sure your child understands the homework. If your child does not complete the homework he/she will clip down. Red Reading Bags/Writing: I will be sending home a red reading bag that will include a reading log and leveled books. Please listen to your child read and ask your child questions after he/she finished reading. Your child is responsible to read all the books every day. If your child forgets to read, he/she will clip down.

Math 4-5 days. *Math quizzes are given every Math pacing is set by the district. Students must pay attention! Second grade math can be challenging! Students MUST know how to add, subtract, place value, counting and writing numbers up to 1,000, recognize number lines and how to use them, telling time, solving story problems by showing work by now. Please practice with your basic second grade math concepts. *Check out these math websites! www.abcya.com www.mathfactcafe.com www.softschools.com www.mathplayground.com www.multiplication.com www.xtramath.org www.coolmath.com 4-5 days. *Math quizzes are given every

Spelling/Writing Spelling: Every Friday I will be sending a new spelling list. Students will be given a test every Friday. Students have a week to practice at school and home. Please practice every night with your child. www.spellingcity.com www.theschoolbell.com Writing: Students are writing across content areas daily. It is crucial you have your child practice writing at home. Please don’t write for your child! Students will have a notebook for every subject.

Water Bottles/Snacks/Birthdays/Lunch Water Bottle: Students are only allowed to bring a water bottle with a spill proof lid. Please write your child’s name on it. Snack: Your child will have one snack break in the morning. Please send HEALTHY snacks only! The following snacks are not allowed in my classroom: candy, cookies, donuts, cakes, chips, pop or juice, etc. Please send any of the following snacks: fruits, vegetables, crackers, Cheez-its, Goldfish, Cheese and crackers, yogurt, pretzels, veggie straws, etc. Birthdays: If you plan on celebrating your child’s birthday, please let me know a couple days in advance. Please do not send cupcakes or cakes because they are messy. You may send sugar cookies, snacks, juice, treat bags, etc. Lunch: Please go over the lunch menu with your child before school begins. Please make sure your child’s name is on their lunch bag. When you send money for school lunch, make sure it’s in an envelope with your child’s name and teacher.

Communication/Volunteers Newsletter: I will send home a monthly newsletter. It will consist important information. Please read the newsletter and save important dates/events. Also, review and discuss the concepts we will be learning about. * Please contact me through email, notes, student planner, Class Dojo or phone. Iblog.dearbornschools.org//harbd Volunteers: I am looking forward for volunteers to help during field trips, parties, and school events. I will let you know when help is needed.
