Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Burrell’s Class Classroom Newsletter November 27, 2017 Burrell’s Bits A good activity to so with your child would be to make a scrapbook of a family event such as a holiday, get-together, special vacation, or a special outing (such as going to a Christmas Parade, going to look at Christmas lights, or caroling with a group. Take pictures of your special event, then have your child create captions for each of the pictures. This can be a paragraph write-up about the event or speech bubbles with dialogue saying what the person in the picture might say. This could turn into a cherished family scrapbook. I know that with the holidays approaching, schedules can become hectic. Please try to keep as normal a routine as possible. There are a lot of free sights that offer books read aloud online. Your child may listen and follow along with books online. Here are some links: https://www.storyjumper.com/book/search http://www.storylineonline.net/ Please see my contact information below. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have a question or concern. I will get in touch with you as soon as possible. We are a team and we need to work together in order for your child to be the very best student that he/she can possibly be. ALL IN, For Every Child, Every Day, Whatever It Takes! Special Area Schedule Monday: Burrell’s Group 1 PE (wear tennis shoes) Burrell’s Group 2 Art Tuesday: Wednesday: Music Thursday: Computer Lab Friday: Mrs. Burrell’s Class Email address: CBurre@spartanburg3.org Cannons Elementary School Website: http://cannons.spartanburg3.org/ 1315 Old Converse Road Phone Number: 864-279-6117

What We’re Learning This Week Classroom Inspiration Dates to Remember November 30th MUSE Machine Visit PTO Spirit Night at Playthings A Plenty 5:00 pm-8:00 pm December 7th Field Trip Spartanburg Science Center & Fuddruckers December 21st Early Dismissal What We’re Learning This Week Math: Group 1 is working on understanding multiplication by making arrays, equal groups, repeated addition, and skip counting. They are taking their individual multiplication facts tests! Group 2 is continuing to work with decimals-multiplying using models. Please make sure your child is studying their number patterns nightly-this will help them master their multiplication facts. ELA: As you are listening to your child read, ask him/her what character traits they are seeing in the main character of their book. They should be able to tell you the character trait and show evidence from the text to support their answer! Other Information Here Our “busy” time of the year is beginning. We will have a lot of extra events going on between now and Christmas Holidays. These days will pass by faster than seems possible. Please try to keep a regular schedule for your child. Encourage them to write one more sentence in their Reading Notebooks or study their multiplication facts a little longer. I am noticing improvements with our multiplication facts testing! Your child should be getting between 9-11 hours of sleep each school night. Please do not allow your child to bring mechanical pencils to school. They end up taking the lead out, the eraser off, missing instructional/work time. I do not allow them in my classroom unless they are the Paper Mate yellow mechanical pencils-lead is not taken out and I have yet to have the lead break on me when I was writing. We will make sure that everyone has had breakfast before our day begins. If your child doesn’t return homework (including Home Note and Reading Log signed) or finish classwork, they will need to complete it before they can have Friday Fun. Please send in a daily snack for your child. We go to lunch at 12:05 and that is a long time between breakfast and lunch. Friendly reminder about snacks: Please do not send in any sweets for snack-they are not appropriate. Peanut butter crackers, pretzels, fruit, nuts, cheese, or popcorn all great ideas for healthy snacks. Please make sure your child is wearing tennis shoes on the days they go to PE. Please see our daily schedule on the front page. We go to PE twice each week. Classroom Inspiration
