Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue One Rogue One is the first in the planned Star Wars Anthology series which is a series of standalone films set in the Star Wars universe. The film's director, Gareth Edwards, stated that the style of the film was that of a war film rather than the traditional Star Wars style. On February 11, 2016, Disney executives stated that the film was virtually completed but there was still visual effects work to complete and reshoots were planned, particularly focused on retooling the ending which was supposedly not coming together as hoped.

Rogue One Pre-release publicity: Promotion of Rogue One was initially delayed, with the exception of one teaser trailer, until after mid-2015 due avoid confusing the public as the similarly named Mission Impossible – Rogue Nation released in July 2015. A teaser trailer released on April 7, 2016 and was viewed close to 30 million times in its first 29 hours, only 200,000 views less than the first teaser for Star Wars: The Force Awakens received.

Rogue One Before the film's release, news broke out that there were substantial reshoots that were supposedly taking place as a result of Disney being unhappy with the tone of the film's original cut. However this was later revealed to just be normal reshoots which are common for films and this news was just overblown by the press and public. Lots of toys were sold to coincide with the film's release and other merchandise like a novel tie-in were also released. The merchandising campaign was mainly targeted towards children as they are the main target audience for the film.

Rogue One Rogue One has 70 award nominations and 8 wins. It was nominated for two Academy Awards – Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects, it won neither. It was also nominated for two BAFTAs – Best Make Up/Hair and Best Achievement in Special Visual Effects, it won neither. Some of its wins include Best Sound Effects Editing from the Online Film & Television Association and Best Visual Effects from the Nevada Film Critics Society.

Rogue One Rogue One received generally positive reviews at its release. The visual effects and expansion of the Star Wars universe were praised while criticism was aimed at the lack of emotional engagement and lack of originality.
