Presentation transcript:

What is the difference between the following two questions? What statistics or statistical tests do we use to answer these questions? Question 1: Among students in the NELS data set, do boys or girls typically have higher 12th grade self concept? Question 2: Among college bound students who’ve always been at grade level, do boys or girls typically have a higher 12th grade self concept?

What statistics or statistical tests do we use to answer these questions? Question 1: Among students in the NELS data set, do students with higher 12th grade self-concepts tend to have higher 12th grade math achievement scores? Question 2: Among college bound students who’ve always been at grade level, is the average family size 4.5 people? Question 3: Among college bound students who’ve always been at grade level, are 12th grade math achievement scores typically higher than 12th grade reading achievement scores? Question 4: Among students in the NELS data set, are 12th grade math achievement scores more variable than 12th grade reading achievement scores? Question 5: Among college bound students who’ve always been at grade level, do 12th grade math achievement scores vary by region, on average? Question 6: What is the largest family size for students in the NELS data set?

The final exam…. Is on Monday December 16th 1 – 4 pm in LC28; Counts for 25% of your grade. Your grade on the final exam can have a big impact on your grade in the course: Will be roughly evenly divided between the material from Exams 1, 2 and 3 and ANOVA. You may use a single 8.5x11 formula sheet on the exam (both sides with anything you want on it.) You should create your formula sheet as you do your studying. There is a sample final exam on the Moodle page. The last quiz for the semester will be on Friday and will cover ANOVA. In recitation we will be doing two course surveys which will count as two assignment grades.
