Presentation transcript:

of the Humanities and the Arts HARTS & Minds An interdisciplinary journal for postgraduates and early career researchers of the Humanities and the Arts

Who are we? Founders Daniel Evers and Jen Baker are both PhD students of English literature at the University of Bristol. The editors were initially all from the University of Bristol, but we have since expanded to other UK PGs and Early Career Researchers by advertising editorial posts on our website and facebook page. All of our editors are PGRs or Early Career Researchers and have a degree in the subject for which they edit.

What do we do? We publish articles, creative writing pieces and reviews of academic texts, conference, exhibitions and other events relating to a particular theme. We invite submissions from postgraduates at either taught level (MA, MLitt,) or doctoral level (MPhil, PhD), as well as early career academics who have not yet secured a full-time teaching position or work independently.  Subjects may include English Literature and Language; History; History of Art; Religion and Theology; Classics and Ancient History; Archaeology and Anthropology; Drama and Theatre; Television and Film; Philosophy; Music; and Modern, European, and Medieval Languages.

GETTING STARTED

Tips for starting your own journal Check out the competition! Will you be an online or print journal? If the latter, check around and find out costings. If the former, check out costings and speak to your institution with a clear plan in mind Will you be subject specific? Who will run the journal each issue? Think out how an issue will run from start to publication. It’s okay to change your mind for the next issue, but you should have a plan in place to complete one first. Safely store your shared items. Put in the time to create networks, collect contacts, and advertise. Create publication guidelines for authors and editors; for referencing decide which style works best and ensure all editors familiarise themselves.
