Introduction Fluoridation in water is adding controlled fluoride to many public water supplies to help reduce the numbers of tooth decays in individuals. Having fluoridated water helps to be effective from preventing individuals from having cavities. The mineral that is in fluoride is naturally on the earth and is also released from many rocks that are then released into soil, water and air. What does acid do? Acid will help to eat away the many different minerals from the tooth’s surface. Fluoride helps individuals teeth to rebuild and strengthen the tooth’s surface.

Introduction

History During the mid 1930s their were many scientists who believed that using small amounts of fluoride naturally could protect an individuals from being decayed. But during the 1940s and early in the 1950s their were a number of studies being done and completed to determine whether fluoride could actually harm individuals. In 1942 the officials in the US Public Health Service was thinking about during a study that would artificially add fluoride to a communities water. Some questions that were discussed and asked would adding fluoride cause any systematic harm to the body, would this effect an individuals bones.

History

PROS Prevents tooth decay and protects individuals of all ages from having cavities. According to Hamby Family Dental , it is estimated that more than 164 million work hours are lost each year from dental related illnesses. Saves Money Fluoride does not cause many health issues such as cancer Alzheimer's, down syndrome, or heart disease. Benefits will last a lifetime Using fluoride in communities have 20- 40 percent less tooth decay

PROS

CONS Putting fluoride in water may have a risk for individuals who suffer from kidney disease, which may cause the disease to become worse. Increase in thyroid or liver issues Weight gain Excessive use may causes spots on the teeth in children. Fatigue Dry skin Memory loss

Recommendation By putting fluoride into water will help all individuals including low income individuals who do not have the health insurance to go the dentist. This will help those individuals to have healthy strong teeth.
