Pirate Newsletter (J. Shoffner) (8-28-2017) Important Dates Email – Monday, September 4th – Holiday-No School Wednesday, September 13th – Early Release Day at 11:30am. Email – Phone - Classroom News We are beginning our first nine weeks of school. That means that we will soon begin making new friends and learning new concepts. Please make sure your child comes to school on time, well rested and on a full stomach. This will prepare the students for a full day of learning and fun! Please follow 2nd grade on Twitter and class dojo for pictures and information on what we are learning in class! Twitter account – 2ndGrade_AWE Literacy Tip – Please make sure to read to your child each night. It is important that they read as well but it is also important they hear daily what a good reader sounds like when reading. They will begin to read in phrases when they hear you do it as well. Parents’ Corner Be sure to check your child’s Monday folder weekly for upcoming news related to fundraisers, events, field trips, and class t-shirts! Newsletters will come home at the beginning of each month. Please use the Dojo password (in Meet The Teacher packet) so you can be connected and learn about what’s happening in the classroom. What We Are Learning: We are asking and answeirng who, what, where, when and why questions when reading. We are discovering strategies to help us solve addition and subtraction word problems. We are learning about weather and scientific tools that are used to help accurately measure weather features. We are learning about the writing process and the stages and steps that good writers follow . Reading Math Science Writing Reminders: Please remember on early release days, students dismiss at 11:35am. If your child is going home a different way on that day I need a note to be turned in that morning with your child. Going Global: Second grade will be learning about South America this year. We will start out focusing on Chile but we will also learn about other countries in South America as well.
