Carter and Dun’s daughter in the elevator. Carter: You are an intern or something? Alex: No. My dad works there. Are you interning now? Carter: No. I’m starting a job there today. Alex: Oh! That’s cool. Congratulations ! **Intern (v / n) 實習

Introduce new boss to Morty Wexter….. Introducer: Morty! This is Carter Duryea. Carter: You are on the Ford Account right? It’s pleasure to meet you. Morty: Me too. I’m really looking forward to working with you. Carter: Oh! Terrific thanks.

Dun meet new boss….. Dun: You are my new boss? Carter: I think so. It’s pleasure to meet you. Dun: What kind of experience do you have in ad sales? Carter: I’ll be honest with you. Dan. Not much. But I’m a fast learner. **ad = advertisement

Carter is buying a new car….. Carter: That’s pretty unexpected. But it’s like a pretty big promotion. Salesman: That’s fantastic. Way to go. **promotion(n.) 升遷 promote(v.)

Dun is at hospital with his wife….. Doctor: Have you been drinking a lot of coffee lately? A lot of stress? Dun: I did sort of get demoted at work. **demote(v.) 降職

Carter and staff are at a meeting….. Carter: I’d like to thank everyone for joining me here. I have an agenda which is that I have to immediately increase the ad pages here by 20%. Dun: 20%? Only a startup magazine can do that **increase …. by…

Carter and staff are at a meeting….. Morty: How? Carter: The answer is synergy. We need to team up here. We need to synchronize. We need to synergize. I am psyched. Who’s with me? **synergy(n.) 綜效 synergize(v.)

Carter get the whole team to meet on Sunday….. Carter: Maybe go over some business development ideas. It’ll be great. We’ll get a great jump on the week.

Teddy K. is coming….. Teddy: Hi. How are you doing? Good to see you. Nice to see you. Great to see you. Oh! Nice brooch. Must be paying her too much money. Carter: I am at Sports America now. Teddy: Well, that’s the flagship.

Teddy K. is talking….. What are we building here? Is it a company? or are we building a new country with no national boundaries? A new democracy for the customer. A new democracy with a new electorate.

Teddy K. is talking….. 24-hour music videos in Kuata Lumpur. Computer with parts manufactured in Japan, Greenland, Idaho, India. A soft drink ad going out simultaneously to 7 different continents.

Dun is arguing….. I’m not sure that I understand how the way, the world is changing is actually going to change how we do business. We’re still selling a product which hopefully someone needs.

Dun is arguing….. We’re human beings with other human beings for customers so I don’t see how this company is like its own country. I mean, just because we sell different kinds of things that doesn’t mean we should operated by our own laws, does it?

Dun is arguing….. Beside, which countries at least democratic ones, they have some obligation to their citizens, don’t they? So how do layoffs and bottom line thinking fit into that? Teddy K. is answering….. You ask some excellent questions. I’m glad you asked them. I’m leaving it to all of you to answer them.
