Why take advantage of new opportunities Create your own PD Stay or Get on the cutting edge Meet the students where they are Many applications are free and fun!!

What motivates us? Read about intrinsic motivation Think like Apple, Google Allow your people three things autonomy mastery purpose

Which do you want? Compliance or Engagement? Which do we want from out students???

How? WL Teachers must learn to advocate We must learn to use the standards to our advantage... Need help with graduation tests?? Utilize connections, use communication and cognates, ...

How can you become an Innovative Educator? Follow blogs about education join Twitter for educators Create a RSS Feed to read

Which RSS Feed? Google Reader Netvibes Bloglines Feeddemon

My RSS Feeder

RSS Feeds

Communicative Tools Google Voice Google Sites Glogs Audacity Voicethread Yodio Animoto Audioboo Wiki/Blogs Google Calendar

Google Voice Why use it? Great way to get students to talk in the language. Student receives individual feedback from teacher in a safe environment.

How do I use it? Create a google voice account Students call the number and hear the question prompt The call goes to voicemail and I can listen through the google voice page, my cell phone or my email I text the students a response

Google Sites Any level starts 1-AP Use as a digital portfolio Students, parents, administrators can see real progress in the language

Google Sites

Glogs Posters? Make them innovative and interactive Glogster Educator Account

Glogster Educator Account Generates accounts to protect student privacy

Glogs no posters :)

Voicethread Voicethread is a tool which allows the students to talk and listen to each other. They can comment or write a message. Students can leave a message and I can moderate comments.

VoiceThread Create an account There are K-12 accounts available Students build a community and can listen to each other

Audacity Voice Recorder Easy to use Most districts will allow this :) Works well with AP Exams

Yodio Students can comment vocally on a picture

Yodio Add interactivity to static photos Recycle traditional topics in new version Gives students an opportunity to display creativity Give students autonomy over work

Animoto Students create 30 second clips to show what they can do.

Audioboo Another voice application Easy to use with cellphones or to record on the web

Another reason

Are you ready to step off of the curb?

Will you get hurt?

maybe... but ...

Can you afford to sit on the sidelines?

Don’t let the kids fool you... They know the social networks but can they use technology to help them in their studies? What is their real technological IQ?? Don’t be afraid of the digital immigrant label!!

The Controversy Facebook -decide what is the platform for it? Create a page for your class Can you “friend” students? Twitter- Why do you need it? How can you use it? Will you use it professionally or with your students? Cell Phones- How will you use in the classroom? How can you assure that students will put it up afterwards? Is it worth the trouble? how many of your students have cell phones but not internet access?

Are you killing creativity?

Let’s start a revolution...

an educational revolution

Thank you!! Clarissa Adams Fletcher ACTFL National Language Teacher of the Year 2011 NationalLanguageTeacher@actfl.org
