Access to Justice in South Eastern Europe (SEE) with wide stakeholders engagement in the regional context Key challenges Improving skills and knowledge of the public to access to administrative or judicial review. Enhancing awareness of administrative bodies and courts about the mechanisms on access to justice under the Aarhus Convention. Key lessons learned Sub-regional cooperation between the civil society and the judiciary. Better understanding of the access to justice barriers and how to overcome them. Platforms for dialog and constructive cooperation within the region and beyond. Climate change renders environmental governance more complex and can lead to tensions. Outcomes – Good Governance and Environmental Democracy SDG 16 and SDG 17 implementation. Providing CSOs with knowledge and tools to benefit from better access to justice. Joint CSOs coalition on open issues are formed. Judges and legal professionals are better prepared to deal with Aarhus cases. Stakeholder’s sub-regional cooperation for better access to justice and overcoming barriers. Stakeholders are able to provide valuable input to other relevant international networks. Awareness-raising and facilitation of national multi-stakeholder dialogue through analytical studies.

Future role of REC Aarhus Convention and SDG implementation (especially in Belarus, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine) through: Supporting cooperation and sub-regional efforts Supporting the development of legal policy and institutional framework as well as the development of good practices.
