Calls for Service – All Grades Of the 375,184 calls for service received in the twelve months to April 2016, 49,626 (13%) were for incidents occurring in a rural beat However 11% of total calls were for unknown locations (mainly motorway and roads) where it is not possible to determine whether they fall within rural or non-rural beats The top five type descriptions are:

Total Crime (Rural and Non-Rural Beats) Rolling 12 Months to April Comparing the rolling 12 months to April 2016, against the previous 12 months, total crime in rural beats is up by 16.3%, with non-rural beats seeing a similar increase of 16.5% The increases in violent, sexual and robbery crimes are higher for rural beats and are also up for criminal damage and public order offences. The other crime types have seen smaller increases than those experienced in the non-rural beats Within theft offences, shoplifting has risen by 52.0% in rural beats, whilst there has been a 3.9% increase in crime levels in non-rural areas. The most notable increases are in East Hants, Hart and the New Forest. Vehicle offences have seen a 0.2% reduction in rural beats, compared to an 18.8% rise in non-rural beats Violence against the person and public order offences are the main crime types to have been impacted by CDI

Crime Comparisons Rolling 12 Months to April Shoplifting has seen a 55.1% increase in rural beats in the last three months (since the last report), compared to the same period last year, most notably in Horndean Kings, Ringwood South and Wickham beats East Hants – 14 of their 23 crimes were in Horndean Kings beat. All 14 occurred at the Co-op; seven involved the theft of laundry/cleaning products and the remaining crimes were theft of meat and alcohol New Forest – 30 of their 50 crimes were in Ringwood South beat, affecting nine retailers. 14 involved theft of alcohol Winchester – 25 of their 32 crimes occurred in Wickham beat; 17 at Co-op all involving the theft of alcohol or meat, four at Wickham Market where jewellery was stolen on each occasion and two at Garsons Garden Centre

Plant Theft (Rural Beats) Although the numbers remain low, theft of plant and agricultural machinery for the last quarter (February to April) has seen a slight increase against the comparative periods for the last two years (14 – 10 – 11). Crimes, involving nine different types of vehicle are spread across six of the seven rural districts Non-rural beats have seen a reduction over the same period (8 – 13 – 16)

Crimes, FAT Outcomes and Out of Court Disposals Rolling 12 months to April Looking at this rolling 12 months against last, rural beats continue to see a slightly smaller increase in crime levels compared to non-rural beats. FAT outcome levels have fallen across the Force but the drop is greater in non-rural beats. The FAT outcome rate remains higher in non-rural beats but they have experienced a greater reduction compared to the previous 12 months The percentage of FAT outcomes that are resolved through out of court disposals is higher for rural beats than non-rural, although both have seen reductions this rolling 12 months, particularly rural beats
