balances All the elements of balances must have the following basic characteristics: Be performed on the toes or on one knee Be visibly held for a while (minimum 1 second) Fixed and well defined in the shape (without moving the free leg or the support leg during the difficulty Good amplitude in the shape Be coordinated, once the balance position has been taken, with a minimum of one movement of the apparatus National A=0.10 A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 Balance in passe Balance - trunk bent forward Balance – back bend of the trunk Free leg front, at the horizontal, slow turn (180°) Free leg front, below the horizontal Free leg front, at the horizontal Free leg front, splits with help - Minimum angle 135o Free leg front, splits with help Free leg front, splits without help Free leg front, splits with help, slow turn (180°) Free leg sideways, at the horizontal, slow turn (180°) Free leg sideways, below the horizontal Free leg sideways, at the horizontal Free leg sideways, splits with help - minimum angle 135o Free leg sideways, splits with help, slow turn (180°) Free leg sideways, splits with help Free leg sideways, splits without help 25

balances continued notes: coaching points A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 National A=0.10 A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 or Knee balance – Front or side horizontal or or Knee balance – Front or side, leg high up, with help Knee balance – Front or side, leg high up, without help Knee balance – back horizontal Knee balance – leg high up, with help Knee balance – with ring, with help Knee balance – attitude notes: All “slow turns” must be performed as follows: no more than a ¼ rotation at every impulse It is forbidden to include 2 or 3 successive difficulty elements with “slow turn”. A maximum of one element out of 3 is allowed with “slow turn”. The GA/RG/SMC does not encourage “slow turns” on the knee. All difficulties with ring must have the foot in contact with the head. coaching points Balances performed on toe must show high extended instep of supporting foot Balances performed on knee must maintain correct hip alignment Balances need to be visibly held with a defined shape Any difficulty performed on a flat foot or not visibly held does not count as a balance difficulty If the apparatus is not in motion throughout the duration of the balance difficulty, the difficulty is not valid Note: there is no requirement for technical movements to be performed with balances, however, the apparatus must not be static 27

pivots All the pivot elements must have the following basic characteristics: Be performed on the toes Have a shape fixed and well defined during the rotation until the end Have good amplitude in the shape National A=0.10 A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 Chaine Turn - single or double Passe 360o Passe 720o Passe 1080o Trunk Bent Forward free leg below the horizontal 360o Trunk Bent Forward free leg below the horizontal 720o Trunk Bent Backward free leg below the horizontal 360o Trunk Bent Backward free leg below the horizontal 720o or or or Free leg front or side - leg below the horizontal 360o or Free leg front or side - leg at the horizontal 360o Cossack - front or side 360o Free leg front or side - leg at the horizontal 720o or Free leg front or side - supporting leg progressively bending 360o or or or Free leg front or side – splits with help 360o Cossack - front or side, leg high up with help, 360o Free leg front or side – splits with help 720o or Cossack - front or side, leg high up with help, supporting leg progressively bending 360o 28

pivots continued A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 29 National A=0.10 A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 Trunk bent forward 360o over the leg held front, at horizontal Back bend of the trunk 360o leg side, at horizontal or or Support leg bent – the other leg high up (front or side) without help 360o Free leg front or side – splits without help 360o or or or Free leg back – arabesque or attitude, leg below the horizontal 360o Free leg back – arabesque or attitude, at horizontal 360o Free leg back – arabesque or attitude, at horizontal 720o or Cossack -arabesque or attitude 360o Cossack - support leg bending progressively (the other leg in arabesque or attitude) 360o or Back splits with Help or Ring with help 360o Back bend of the trunk – leg in attitude 360o Front scale 360o Side scale 360o Side splits with trunk at the horizontal with help 360o Fouette – free leg at the horizontal), front, side « arabesque »,  attitude  360o Fouette – free leg at the horizontal), front, side « arabesque »,  attitude  720o Fouette – passe 360o Fouette – passe 720o 29

pivots continued notes: coaching points 30 The GA / RG / SMC does not encourage pivots performed on the knee In all difficulties with ring, the foot must be in contact with the head or be held higher than the head In pivots with splits and trunk at the horizontal, the trunk must visibly be kept at the horizontal position for the full rotation coaching points Any pivot performed on a flat foot during the entire rotation or part of it, or with a shape not well defined does not count as a difficulty Maintain shape of pivot for full required rotation Must show high extended instep of supporting foot Maintain middle body and hip strength during rotation Correct hip alignment during pivot Coaching progression – Work the static shape required before adding rotation The amplitude of the shape and/or the level of the rotation determine the level of the difficulty The support leg whether stretched or bent does not change the value of the difficulty Incomplete rotation means that the gymnast stops the rotation or uses heel support on the floor before completing the specified degree levels for the difficulty Shape not well fixed means that the shape taken by the gymnast is not immobile while it is held and changes slightly = Execution fault. The judge must verify that the free leg goes up as the rotation begins and comes down exactly on the same plane and in the same direction at the end of the rotation. If the shape is not held at all = Composition fault (for example: a pivot with a swing of one leg) and the difficulty loses its full value 30

flexibilities & waves A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 31 All the elements of flexibilities and waves must have the following basic characteristics: Be performed with support on one or both feet or on another part of the body Have a shape fixed and well defined (with a visible stop in the position ) Have good amplitude in the shape National A=0.10 A = 0.10 B = 0.20 C = 0.30 D = 0.40 Trunk bent over the leg at the horizontal leg at front Trunk bent over the leg at the horizontal leg at side Trunk bent over the leg at the horizontal leg at back Splits or leg high up – in front with help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in front with help, promenade, more than 360o Passe promenade more than 360o Splits or leg high up – in front without help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in front without help, promenade, more than 360o Splits or leg high up – in side with help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in side with help, promenade, more than 360o Splits or leg high up – in side without help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in side without help, promenade, more than 360o Splits or leg high up – in back with help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in back with help, promenade, more than 360o Splits or leg high up – in ring with help, promenade, more than 180o Splits or leg high up – in ring with help, promenade, more than 360o 31
