Course Objectives: By the end of the course students are able to integrate the principles and criteria used in materials selection and adaptation for literature in the ESL classroom
Course Synopsis: Development of literary materials; principles and criteria for analyzing and evaluating published materials; developing modules for teaching; adapting lessons for different classroom purposes
Course Content Literature in English teaching materials Materials for language-based approaches Materials for the Literature in English programme Developments/Emerging and re-emerging issues in material production Literature as the vehicle for human development
Course Evaluation: Tips for Examinations : 1. Mid-semester (30%) Read poems and short stories for Lower Secondary (Literature Component) Be prepared to write tasks/lesson plans
Course Evaluation: Tips for Examinations : 2. Final (30%) Read the PJJ Module thoroughly -questions requiring short answers/ essay
Assignment (40%): The essay should be typed, (font 12, double spaced, total number of pages not exceeding 15 pages) Due date: 1 week before the 2nd Face to Face
Assignment (Individual) – 40% Topic: Suggest some effective strategies for teaching the literature component poems at lower secondary level Soft copy will be provided
Marks will be deducted if the booklet exceeds 15 pages and if fancy covers are used) The assignment must be handed 1 week before the 2nd Face to Face
