RED SCARE Response to the 1917 revolution in Russia Period of anti-communist hysteria during 1919-1920 Bombs mailed to 36 prominent Americans fueled antiradical sentiment. Bomb damaged the house of Attorney General A. Mitchell Palmer. The bomber an Italian anarchist died in the blast. Palmer Raids were a series of raids to capture alleged radicals. Thousands were arrested in 33 cities across the nation.

Sacco and Vanzetti Two Italian immigrants were tried and found guilty of the murders of a paymaster and a guard.
