CM Day Care Center (CM-DCC)
General Context At first glance, there appears to be a relative improvement in Mongolia’ overall living standard. However, evidence shows that despite the mining boom, Mongolia is confronted with the ever- increasing unemployment of unskilled workers who are left out of the job market. The most affected by this unfair situation of market economy are usually women, single mothers, people of old age and Children. Our beneficiaries are settled in the “Ger-Area”, set-aside to accommodate, mostly, migrants who run away from hardship and lack of facilities in the countryside. It is here where you find the bulk of uneducated children, as families are usually without any meaningful and permanent income generating activity. On the other hand, these areas are known to be with very little facilities, if at all, such as, running water, heating system, adequate sanitation facilities, educational infrastructures, let alone recreational facilities.
Parents are most of the time in a vicious cycle: taking care of the child or leaving the child behind in order to find some small job opportunities, mainly in the market as carriers or selling small articles such as plastics, woods, coals, cigarettes … For the family survival, these small works are a must since they are almost the only income generating activities for the family. On the other hand, no one to leave the child with at home, especially when the child is still too small to be left alone.

key challenge that influences education quality School overcrowding: Of the 22 schools with triple shifts in the country, 21 are located in Ulaanbaatar. Because o f overcrowded classes, teachers are not able to pay adequate attention to students, while double or triple shifts result in fewer hours of instruction per student.
Specific Problem Being Addressed Being witnesses of this situation of poverty and its consequences as far as Family life, and especially the well being and future of these children are concerned, Caritas Mongolia has been paying particular attention to the group of children between 3 to 5 years old.
For more than two years, this special program has been taking place for the sake of these children in 2 Gers, in the Bayankhoshuu - Zun Salaa Ger Area. On a yearly basis, 20 to 25 small children are welcome in.
CM will help provide a good quality day care for parents living in the ger area. It will (in a very limited manner) help address the problems for overcrowding and lack of access. In addition, it will help poor and vulnerable families send their children to a good but affordable day care. On the other hand, this special program is also an opportunity wherein children, beside from education, they are taken care of as far as daily healthy and nutritious food, medical care, and clean and warm clothes are concerned.

Future plan A building & facilities to ‘host’ the school. Especially with the expected scaling up and quality increase, a bigger and better building will be needed. This is the most essential resource. With a better building facilities a greater number of poor and vulnerable kids can have the good education
