I am honoured to be here. My name is Floor Lieshout and I have the pleasure to inform you about the global youth movement for road safety. As you may know, we are in the middle of creating our own Global youth NGO for Road Safety.

Introduction to the Global Youth NGO for Road Safety Background World Youth Assembly for Road Safety 23-24 April 2007, Geneva >200 youth delegates >100 countries Give young people a voice towards the rest of the world and adoption of Youth Declaration for Road Safety. 23 & 24 april 2007 were historical days for Youth and Road Safety. During these two days more than 200 young people our of more than 100 countries came together to talk about road safety. It was organized by the United Nations and World Health Organization to give young people a voice towards the rest of the world. Our voice was written in the Youth Declaration for Road Safety and adopted during this assembly. Introduction to the Global Youth NGO for Road Safety Taskforce Creating a Global Youth NGO for Road Safety is easier said than done. Believe me, I can tell  Of course I can not do this alone, since I began in January this year I send several messages to all delegates from the World Youth Assembly, to check who was still involved in road safety and who was willing to help actively on the creation of this NGO. Out of many reactions we picked the best of the best and let them come over to Geneva, to the World Health Organization where I am temporarely based. There we officially formed the Taskforce on preparing the launch of the Global Youth NGO for Road Safety. As you can see we act as a for, with and from young people organization! Introduction to the Global Youth NGO for Road Safety Problem Statement In order to change this situation, young people face several challenges: A lack of awareness and recognition in the world of the vulnerable position of young people in traffic. A lack of global coordination and collaboration among youth and youth-led NGO's and their road safety initiatives.Youth road safety initiatives remain small-scaled and scattered. A lack of one strong voice to advocate on the behalf of youth and road safety. A lack of resources for youth road safety programmes. A lack of capacity building. Road safety knowledge and best practices from youth initiatives are not shared in a broader network. Besides this, programmes targeting youth and road safety are commonly not evidence-based. It does so by: advocating for youth related road safety issues nationally, regionally and especially globally; connecting young people and youth NGOs active in the road safety field around the world, so they can work together and easily share information and experiences; building capacity among youth in the road safety field. After identifying the problem, we figured out what we want to do about this.
