Welcome to 2nd Grade! Mrs. McNamara Room R9

Meet Mrs. McNamara Always learning and growing: After school: *Bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University *Student taught 2nd and 3rd grades *Taught Pre-Kindergarten for 3 years *Taught Full-Day Kindergarten last year *Volunteered for: Boys and Girls Club, The Caring Place, Girl Scouts After school: *Mom to Lucy (6) and Lydia (3)…and our dog, Oscar! *Enjoy reading, yoga, going on walks with my family, and attending Lucy’s softball games! My beliefs as a teacher: *cultivate a community of honesty and kindness, where students feel comfortable and confident to take risks *all students have the potential to be successful learners *provide opportunities for students to learn from their mistakes and take responsibility for their learning

Second Grade Goals Reading: Read 50 books *30 pages of a chapter book counts as 1 book for second graders Book logs are on the back of the weekly spelling homework Math: +/- facts to 18 with automaticity Addition: 48 out of 50 problems in 4 minutes Subtraction: 46 out of 50 problems in 5 minutes

Homework Assignment sheet in STAR binder Please check this daily and mark your initials  Math Worksheet to practice that day’s skill, must be turned in the next day Spelling/Reading Student Choice Menu, Reading is a “Must Do” (log books on the back). Due every Day 6 Science/S.S. Occasionally there will be short assignments for homework

Eureka Math Throughout the year we will… Find sums and differences to 100 Add and subtract units of measurement Use place value to count and compare numbers to 1000 Add and subtract within 200, solve word problems to 100 Add and subtract within 1000 Build the foundations of multiplication and division Problem solving with length, money, and data Tell time, identify shapes, and identify fractions as equal parts of shapes **The strategies we use will look different from what you are used to and comfortable with Stick with me and your second grader! We are building a deeper conceptual understanding for stronger mental math and problem solving!
