Learning with press In Secondary School Good morning. i´m going to talk about the importance of working with magazines and newspaper´s news. The objectives i try to gt and the way i do that in my classroom. PILAR DE VEGA

OBJECTIVES: . Global approach to sciences. . Education in environmental values. . Gradual introduction to English language. . Current affairs. . Connect school activities MOTIVATION. With real life Let´s begin by objectives. Current legislation about Bilingual Section suggests to teach pupils in a global approach to sciences and to instill environmental (and others) values and introduce English language gradually. On the other hand in science, i think, is very important, to show pupils current affairs conected with the subject we are working; that is to conect school activities with real life. This help to motivate children. All these objectives will be the main element in which natural sciences education will be based. Newspaper capture the reality of life in everywhere in the world. So they ara a great help.

Read and discuss. To give you an example. This is a press publication . It´s about the recent spill oill in louisiana . It can be real or modify/ changed. I have got an idea. Would you like to work? First of all we´ll read and then i make you some questions.

MAIN IDEAS: Extraction, transformation and use of fossil fuels pollute the environment. Environment pollution threatens biodiversity. We can make things better by using energy in a responsible way and following the rule of the three R: reduce, reuse, recycle. Let´s look now at man ideas. Every body use energy, we can make thigns better by using energy in a responsible way or renewable energies and following the rule of three r: reduce, reuse, recycle. How do you can use energy in a responsible way? Don´t use transport unnecesseraly! Use a hating thermostat. Throw the trash to recycle.

: Here they are! Coral sea are important ecosyste She and other reefs depend on the nutrients produced by tiny algae, called zooxanthellae, that live inside them. When water temperatures get too high, these colorful algae bolt, leaving coral reefs in a bleached condition. If the situation persists, Miss Coral will turn completely white and die.
