Why do students register for SSD 101? Students who place into more than one developmental course (not including MAT 014) are required to take Student Success 101. SSD 101 is NOT a developmental course.

Developmental Courses Are identified by course numbers that begin with a zero (e.g. ENG 010, MAT 013, RDG 011) Must be taken in sequence and included in the student’s schedule until completed with a grade of “C” or better CANNOT be used to satisfy degree requirements

Developmental Courses (continued) Some students may be excused from the second level of developmental Reading (RDG 011) or English (ENG 010). Must be nominated by instructor Based on final grade in course and score on exit exam Students in developmental courses cannot take more than 15 credits without filing an appeal in the Advising Center.

MAT 014 or Credit-Bearing Math? If the student is enrolled in a degree program that requires MAT 116 or higher, MAT 014 (Algebra II) is required. Math Requirements by Major Students enrolled in degree programs that do not require MAT 014 (e.g. Liberal Arts, Criminal Justice) should consider transferability of math courses.

More Math Considerations MAT 010, 013, 014, 129 and 131 have two semester variations (e.g. MAT 010A and MAT 010B). Students who are unsuccessful in their first attempt at the full version should be strongly encouraged to consider the two semester option. Students receiving a “B-” or “C+” or “C” in MAT 014 must take the two semester variation (MAT 129A/MAT 129B) of MAT 129 (Precalculus).

Combination Math Classes

BIO 010 and CHM 010 All Health Technology applicants must take BIO 010 and CHM 010 or have the equivalent from high school. Students who had a lab Biology class in high school with a grade of “C” or better are exempt from BIO 010. Students who had a lab Chemistry class in high school with a grade of “C” or better are exempt from CHM 010.

BIO 010, CHM 010, and CHM 020 All science majors (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Bio Pre- professional) without the appropriate high school science background must take BIO 010 and should register for CHM 020 in lieu of CHM 010. MAT 013 is a corequisite of BI0 010. MAT 013 is a prerequisite of CHM 010. MAT 014 is a prerequisite of CHM 020.

Modern Language All Liberal Arts majors must take 2 semesters of a modern language (in sequence). If the student took the language in high school, he/she must take a diagnostic test in the Testing Center.

CSC 105 and CSC 106 CSC 105 may not transfer. If unsure, students should consult with a Transfer Counselor. CSC 106 has a prerequisite of MAT 014 and the student must indicate a working knowledge of Microsoft Office. If CSC 105 is not completed, an advisor’s signature is required for in-person registration.

Portable Colleague The Office of the Registrar has developed a document that allows the advisor to see certain parts of Colleague screens to use at the SSD Registration sessions. This document will show placement test/SAT results, high school lab grades, and previous/current MCC courses. This will assist in advising for the health technologies and the information will be invaluable for those students who arrive unprepared.

Summer Session Classes There are four week, seven week, and fourteen week varieties. Schedule will be posted on 2/22 with registration beginning 2/25. Students looking to take the second part of a two- part math in the summer should understand that they are quickening the pace of the course. Students should consult with a Transfer Counselor about the ability of these courses to transfer.

Points of Emphasis There must be personal involvement with the students—please don’t sit in the back of the Amphitheater and observe the session. It is fully expected that you assist our students with choosing and registering for their Summer 2013 and/or Fall 2013 classes. Please take attendance at the end of the registration sessions so that absent students will have their holds reinstated.

Upcoming Important Dates Week of February 25th—students on the Edison campus will come to BH 100 for registration preparation. Week of March 18th– students on the Edison campus will come to BH 100 for their web registration for Summer and/or Fall 2013. Students in the Urban Centers will stay in New Brunswick and Perth Amboy.

Payment Dates for Summer and Fall 2013 Summer session 2013 tuition is due on April 29. Fall 2013 tuition is due on August 8. Fall Payment Plan Dates: 50% by August 8 25% by September 26 25% by October 24 The Payment Plan includes a $25 fee.
