Lesson 3: They Key to Perimeter and Area Consumer Math p. 176-179

The Key to Perimeter and Area Perimeter is the distance around a figure or region. Notice the word rim in perimeter. Remember that perimeter is the measure of the rim of a figure. Area is the number of squares of a given size that cover a surface. It is the surface included inside a perimeter. Notice that the last three letters in a square are in area. The Key to Perimeter and Area

Rule: To find the area (A) of a rectangle, multiply the length by the width. A = l x w

Rule: To find perimeter (P) of a rectangle, add the length (l) and width (w), then multiply by 2. P = 2(l + w) PERIMETER
