Classroom Procedures for Mrs. Martin Room 302

Welcome to class I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this year wisely and beneficially. Positive attitude is the key of success. Let’s keep it all the time.

Why do we have procedures? A procedure is the way that we do things. To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

ENTRANCE Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. Enter the classroom quietly. Go directly to your assigned seat. Sharpen pencils. Get ready for your work.

RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS □ Record class work and homework in your folder. Remember you may have to add unfinished class work to the homework section of your folder. □ Start the entry task that will be written on the board. □ It is to be a zero noise level during entry task time. When you finish, wait quietly for the next direction.

During Instruction Listen to the teacher with full attention. No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

Pencils Pencils Sharpening pencils during class time can be very distracting and frustrating for other students in the class. There will be two containers at the front of the classroom. One for sharpened (new) pencils and one for (used) pencils that need to be sharpened. If you find you need a (new) sharpened pencil simply place your dull pencil in the (used) container and get a sharpened one out of the (new) container. You may also sharpen your pencils before class begins. Do not sharpen colored pencils in the electric sharpener.

While you are working Pencils Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you didn’t understand, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, raise your hand and ask the teacher to explain it. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

If the teacher asks for your attention Pencils Stop whatever you are doing at that moment. Face the teacher and wait silently (no talking). Notify any classmates who haven’t noticed that the teacher has asked for your attention. No talking or whispering. All of your attention should be given to the teacher.

RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS After you are done RIGHT AFTER THE BELL RINGS Check your work and the directions one more time to see if you missed anything or did something incorrectly. If the assignment is to be turned in, do so. Finish any work that you have not completed.

Dismissal Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. Clean you work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Martin to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. You will be instructed when to line up. Car riders will line up first, then first load bus students. Second load will be at the end of the line.

Homework procedures Homework that is assigned is due the next day unless I give you an alternative due date. Late homework is worth ½ credit.

When you are tardy Pencils You will not be excused from any work you missed. Get the assignment from a classmate and do it at home or when you are caught up with your other classwork.

When you are absent Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. Get the assignments from your classmates. All handouts and worksheets will be on your desk. Do the work at home. You will have 3 days to make up any work if you have an absence. You will get a “0” for those assignments not turned in by the deadline.

Absent student procedure Clean your work area and take all garbage to the trash can. Wait for Mrs. Webb to dismiss you. The ring of the bell does not dismiss you. After you get permission to leave, push in your chair and leave quietly. If it is the last period of the day, stack the chairs by the back wall. It is always stressful when you are absent and have to come back and find and make up the missing assignments. This is a good time for classmates to help out.

Emergency Procedures Pencils Fire Alarm Line up at the door. It is an automatic Zero noise level First person out will turn to the left and go out the front door. Turn to the right and walk straight until you are away from the building. Remain in a single file line and a noise level of zero. Line up by the tree, facing toward the building.

Emergency Procedures Pencils Non Critical Lockdown Classroom door will be closed and locked. If you are out of the room return to your classroom immediately Class will continue until an announcement is made ending the non-critical lockdown.

Emergency Procedures Pencils Critical Lockdown The classroom door will be closed and locked. If you are out of the room, return to the NEAREST classroom. That teacher will inform me you are there. All students are to move to the front right corner of the room, by the computers. We will sit on the ground at a level zero until an announcement is made ending the critical lockdown.
