Tensions Rise 1833, Austin goes to Mexico City to ease tension Mex. dictator, Santa Anna, refused to negotiate - Austin jailed (18 months) - relations worsen 1835, war b/w Santa Anna's troops and Texan revolutionaries March 2, 1836, reps. from TX formally declare independence
