A Short Film by Tyler Rossiter A pocket full of money A Short Film by Tyler Rossiter
Synopsis My short film will be based on the journey of a single £5 note. It will show how the money transfers from one person to another and the different backgrounds of people it will visit. I hope to show the money going to and from different class people to give the message to the audience that having money doesn't make you a better person and that just because money can be for splashed around for some, it is also the source of survival for others.
Target audience My target audience I would say is anyone 16+. This is because many people question where their money may travel after it leaves their pocket and it is also a good life lesson about social class to teenagers and young adults. I have chosen such a large age group because although the story may not appeal to everyone's interests, there will be people in each age groups who will find relevance in it. This is also because my short film will feature different people of alternate age groups in it too.
treatment Breakdown of scenes Boy opening birthday card with money in Boy buys trainers with money Money goes from till as change to another customer Man takes money to bank Girl takes money from bank account Girl gives some money to group of lads Lads get chippy (Not entirely sure how it will end or if the events will happen in this particular order but this is the sort of idea I am going for)
WHY HAVE I SELECTED THIS IDEA? I have selected this idea because I personally found it interesting and thought that for a short film it was a good topic to choose as it can easily be done to fit within the time frame of 5 minutes. I also felt that the topic would be quite interesting to watch as a short film for the audience as money being passed around from person to person is an everyday thing that nobody really thinks into.
Key influences My key influences for this idea came from thinking about the different backgrounds of different people and how they strive to earn there money and what they do within the day to pass this £5 note around. Also, when researching this idea, I found that in the USA the odds of handling that coin the first time is not 1/2,612,etc, it's 1/1. The odds of handling it again would be 1/2,612,980,000,000 ... And I found that interesting and thought about what the ratio would be with a £5 note.
My initial ideas for locations I could use are: Birthday card Shop(s) Customer Passed along people Saving pot Bank Bar Restaurant
Cast and crew For me to do this effectively I will need a cast and set of crew. These involve jobs such as Actors Director Camera-man Audio Recorder
Challenges in video and audio A few challenges I may face in video and audio may be not having enough technical skills myself for all the technical word with the camera etc. so therefore I may need to have a few workshops to expand on my camera and audio techniques.
LEGAL AND ETHICAL Need permission to film on locations. At certain times I may be restricted to film due to certain circumstances. Cannot copyright music. Be aware of logo and branding placement in the background of shots. Involve equality throughout my short film. Avoid stereotypes and bias views. Consider representation of women and men throughout my short film.
MUSIC COPYRIGHT I plan my short film to have a soft song playing in the background instead of having sound so that the audience can concentrate more on where the £5 note travels rather than what’s going on with the people. The issue with this is I cannot use a song that I don’t have permission to use, therefore, I will need to gain permission for a song or create my own.
RESOURCES I will need: Camera Tripod Audio recorder Actors Spare battery (for when I leave the premises)
WHAT WILL MAKE IT A SUCCESS My short film will be successful if the filming and angles are effective, my locations are good and the music in the background is effective and fits nicely. If my audience enjoy it then I will have reached my goal. I also need to ensure that I am here on time so that I can get as much filming and editing done as possible during my day etc.
PROCESS OF MAKING IT The process of making it will be to ensure that I have mind mapped all of my ideas so that in filming I know what needs to be in my shots and what makes sense to be in them. Also I will need to ensure my actors are rehearsed and understand what they are doing and that camera men etc. know what role they have to play so that there is less hassle in filming my project and is done effectively.
