National Dental Core Training projects April 2016 update National Curriculum for Dental Core Training (DCT) A nationally agreed curriculum for DCT will provide a competency framework of knowledge, skills and behaviours for DCT. The framework will enable trainees to clearly demonstrate progress and professional development in multiple areas across the training years. This project will develop and rollout a national curriculum for Dental Core Training for use with trainees starting September 2016 Developing a Situational Judgement Test for Dental Core Training Recruitment Values based recruitment (VBR) is a core objective for Health Education England (HEE). SJTs are designed to assess an applicant’s judgement regarding situations encountered in the work place targeting professional attributes rather than knowledge. SJTs can capture a variety of performance domains (such as empathy and integrity) which can be mapped to organisational values. This project will develop SJT items/papers for selection in to DCT training posts from 2017 National Recruitment to Dental Core Training Posts from March 2017 Current Dental Core Training (DCT) selection processes vary across the UK, in terms of their effectiveness and robustness in selecting the best candidate for the training post. There are now opportunities through this project to use the evidence base from medical selection to make improvements to the DCT selection process. This project will deliver standardised application, selection and recruitment processes for the appointment to DCT posts from March 2017. The recruitment and selection processes will ensure alignment to HEE’s policy on Values based recruitment to training posts. DCTDP@wm.hee.nhs.uk
