The Job Application Process For Teens

Job Applications All companies who are looking for new employees will have a job application for you to complete The job application can be on paper or it can be located on the company’s webpage Many companies require you to complete a job application and ask you to submit a resume with a cover letter Some of the information on the job application can be the same as your resume Contact information Education Work Experience (including volunteer work) Positive personal characteristics Skills you have developed (computer software you know how to use)

Job Application Tips When you Apply In-Person When you stop in to pick up an application or drop-off a completed application, be sure you are dressed appropriately. You may end up speaking to the manager and it is very important to look and act professional in case you get an on-the-spot interview. Dress professionally: NO Jeans, sweat pants/shirts, sagging pants, over-exposed skin, or “gym” shoes ALWAYS dress one-up from what the employees wear: If the employees wear black dress pants and a golf shirt, you should wear black pants and a dress shirt with a tie (males) or black dress pants/skirt with a blouse or sweater (females). Most entry-level jobs you apply for in high school will not require a suit and tie. Wear dress shoes or all black athletic shoes in excellent shape

Filling out the Job Application After you pick-up a job application, please read the application before you begin to write. Notice where you should write the information (on top of the line or is it a box and you write in the box). Bring your own pen (Use blue or black ink only—other colors may not show up on a copy machine and are sometimes hard to read) Leave space between your words to make it easier to read and identify pieces of information Be NEAT Bring your resume or another completed job application to use. Most applications ask for much of the same information. Less mistakes are made when you are just copying info instead of thinking and writing at the same time. (OOOPS I left out a letter—ink does not erase)

Complete the Job Application When completing the practice application, you can use a pencil so you can erase. Give your completed application to your teacher. Open the PDF Filler application shared with you and complete it.
