Proper Attire for Labs NO SANDLES, HEELS, SLIPPERY SOLED SHOES When it doubt, have an extra pair of sneakers in your locker Must completely cover your feet Long hair must be pulled back PANTS ONLY (no skirts or shorts…sorry) No loose clothing
Leave your jewelry in your locker If you wear contacts DON’T touch your eyes during lab Irritation can occur from chemical fumes (so bring drops if needed to use BEFORE lab) Remember, you will be working with chemicals and instruments which could stain or discolor your clothes (so plan ahead and don’t wear your best polo or new pants!)
Common Sense Safety No goofing around No running or jogging -- ALWAYS WALK NO EATING, DRINKING or CHEWING GUM!!!! Keep your hands away from your face and mouth during a lab Always wash your hands BEFORE you LEAVE
Keep sharp objects, not in use, flat on the table not in your hands Never sniff a chemical……waft it! ALWAYS wear your goggles If I see you with them on your head, hanging off your ears or on the table… !! ZERO !! Tell me if you don’t feel good, think you might pass out, or need some fresh air
NEVER TASTE or EAT anything in the lab!!!!!!! Nothing ever leaves the lab room without my permission or you will get detention! NEVER TASTE or EAT anything in the lab!!!!!!! I don’t care if it’s a marshmallow or moldy bread, don’t do it When in doubt, ask the teacher
Laboratory Procedures All materials will be located on your lab table, lab tray or on the front table First things first…always read the directions to an experiment BEFORE you get any materials Always equip yourself with the proper PPE (eyeglasses, latex gloves, etc.) BEFORE you get any materials
Follow all written and oral instructions When in doubt… Ask your lab partner first Ask a fellow classmate THEN ask the teacher Be aware of any safety practices or dangerous materials before you start Conduct yourself and your experiment in a safe manner
Allow proper time to clean up your materials BEFORE the bell rings Dispose of materials according to the teachers directions ALWAYS Wash your hands before you leave after every experiment

Common Laboratory Instruments Stored in labeled wood or glass cabinets Be careful when reaching for glassware, it will shatter if it falls! All chemicals are stored in locked cabinets in the other room(YOU SHOULD NEVER BE IN THAT ROOM OR OPEN THOSE CABINETS!!!! NEVER)
