Open Infrastructure Data Triangulum Project

The Triangulum Project The Triangulum project will see three EU cities (Manchester, Eindhoven & Stavanger) work together The aim of the project is to find viable solutions to make cities sustainable, smart, and livable in the future. The project will implement pioneering concepts for sustainable energy supply, mobility, and information technology

Open Data Engine Within Manchester, the Triangulum project will develop an open data engine that will add value to data from existing city assets – it will focus on real time data streams Curation of these data streams is a real focus – at present there is a lot of valuable information being lost The open data engine will also be made available to any other University projects where value could exist in the collection of large data sets from distributed sources Using a platform developed by OSIsoft

University Value Considerable data exists in many of our BAU systems but accessing these is difficult. Estates keen to work to expose campus data in a way that can be managed Energy, BMS, weather, air quality, network speeds…… Can expose data via Matlab, Excel, API and use in projects (research and taught)

Questions? Can we improve the accuracy of local short term load forecasting through the use of other data (highway speeds, Uber, Twitter)? Can we link data from systems such as electric vehicles to decrease energy use in unoccupied offices / buildings? Can we identify building management systems that are clearly underperforming?

Expectations RA position has just been advertised to support development over 24 month period IT platform in place within University data centres but cloud platform is being made available by OSIsoft as well Critical steps now are integration of data sources and issues relating to on-campus / off-campus access Would like data to be integrated and available by September along with a list of projects
