Health Lesson #3 (Taking Control and Staying Safe) Bellwork: Choose a Videogame, Television Show, or a Song. Describe how it encourages people to show one another respect or how it promotes verbal or physical violence. Health Lesson #3 (Taking Control and Staying Safe) Learning Targets: Today We Will: Take a look at influences and learn about how to deal with bullying So We Can: Stay safe, avoid bad situations, and help ourselves and others deal with bullying We Will Know We Have it When: We can help ourselves or someone else stay safe and when we can correctly identify bullying and respond appropriately (practice scenarios in class)

Raise Your Hand if Your Influence (T.V./ Music/ Videogame)… Influence Analysis 1. Write your name on your paper. 2. Crumple it up and throw it up to the front of the classroom. 3. When Mr. Wriska says go, go get a different paper and talk to that person about what he/she wrote down. Let’s Look at Some Types of Bullying Verbal/Physical Bullying You and a group of friends see a Bully take another student’s phone away from them. The Bully refuses to give it back and actually pushes the student down when he/she tries to get back his/her phone. What would you do?

Let’s Look at Some Types of Bullying Verbal/Threatening Bullying You see a Bully/ “Friend” take another student’s homework assignment without the student really wanting to give them it. The Bully threatens to make up and spread a rumor about the student if he/she doesn’t give them the homework. What would you do?

Let’s Look at Some Types of Bullying Cyber-Bullying A Bully posts an Instagram message making fun of what another student wears. If you saw this, what would you do?

So, What Would You Do? Each table will be assigned one of the three previous scenarios… Come up with a plan as a group how you could help the victim(s) in your assigned video Physical bullying Verbal/threat bullying Cyberbullying

Create an Anti-Bullying Slogan Time to Be Creative In groups of 4-5 students Create a slogan to: help students understand that bullying behavior is not acceptable Motivate students to speak up if they see bullying Encourage students not to bully others Make it Colorful and Creative! Worth 10 points.
