Welcome to CAMTECH website to ECG/EKG Technician Program

What is an electrocardiogram (ECG, EKG)? The electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a noninvasive test that is used to reflect underlying heart conditions by measuring the electrical activity of the heart. By positioning leads (electrical sensing devices) on the body in standardized locations, information about many heart conditions can be learned by looking for characteristic patterns on the EKG.

Course Description: The course combines theory and practice, covering important background on the anatomy and physiology of the heart and chest, on heart disease and disease processes, flow of blood through systemic and pulmonary circulation, the conduction system, pertinent medical terminology, and the legal and ethical aspects of patient contact and safety.

Class Description This program provides you the hands-on training and background knowledge you need to become a qualified EKG Technician. Combining traditional classroom instruction with laboratory simulations, the program covers a broad range of subject matter, concepts, and skills.

Course Description This 300-hour program begins with 80 hours of didactic and practical training . Topics will include cardiac anatomy and physiology, principles of reading the ECG, proper placement of electrodes, patient confidentiality, professional ethics, infection control and equipment maintenance.

There is also a practical and hands-on experience the students will receive by use and placement of the 12 lead EKG machine, and in reading and analyzing EKG printouts to determine ‘cardiac intervals and complexes’ and normal vs. abnormal readings. Students are expected to complete 10 EKG’s and identify 4 sets of waves, figure the heart rate using a 6 second strip as well as the 1500 box method, and determine what type of EKG is shown on the strip both abnormal and normal.

As a Certified EKG Technician, you’ll operate machines that record the electrical activity of a patient’s heart. EKG rhythms provide important data for the diagnosis of heart conditions. As a CET, you may perform some or all of the following tasks: Set up and administer EKGs, stress tests Prepare patients for Holter, or ambulatory monitoring Edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis Schedule appointments Transcribe physicians' interpretations
