Embedding Race Equality/ Internationalising the Curriculum Andrea Cameron, Head of School of Social and Health Sciences, Intellectual Lead for Teaching and Learning; Fiona Caldwell, Policy Officer

Original Project Objectives Develop a strategy for embedding race equality in the curricula of all subject disciplines Identify and disseminate good practice Teach curricula that reflect the cultural diversity that staff and students do and will live and work in Use this work to complement strategies to internationalise the curriculum

Scoping Exercise Outcomes Pockets of good practice dependent on subject discipline Sense from some staff that ‘we already do all of this’ Blind spots Sensitivities Limited diversity of the current population Opportunities for student mobility but some under-utilisation

Revised Project Objectives Review and develop the curriculum in relation to race equality, internationalisation and fostering the Abertay Attributes (Programme Specifications)

Revised Project Objectives Develop CPD activity for staff to enable the delivery of an inclusive pedagogy Confidence; Capability; Competence; Capacity Examine student mobility and employability pre- and post-graduation Evaluate the student experience

Pilot Key issue – staff competence/capability/confidence/capacity across the institution Intervention – staff development using ‘Champions’ and a range of internal and external resources What will this look like: Workshops – Effective Communication, workload planning, TLE seminars, curriculum review, partnership with Students’ Association Mentorship Online training – unconscious bias, HEA/ECU unconscious bias in L&T Online resources in multimedia format, e.g. case studies, toolkits & HEA/HEI resources.

Evaluation and measures Review of programme specifications Engagement with workshops and online resources The student experience – focus groups, module/programme evaluations, other feedback mechanisms, retention, exchange activity, employability data Output from EIAs HR training records Satisfaction surveys
