Floor Hockey Basics Timing Players Substitutions Scoring 2 – 16 minute halves, continuous clock 2 timeouts per half (Must be in control of puck) Overtime (Only in playoffs) : 5 min Sudden Death, then a 5 shot shootout Players 5v5, must have 4 to start Substitutions On dead ball only, must check in with scorekeeper Scoring 1 pt Mercy rule is 7 points in 2nd half
Sportsmanship 1 to 5 scale 5 – Great, 1 – Very Poor Must have a 4.0 to make the playoffs 2 Major penalties per person in one game equal an ejection. 3 per a team is a forfeit of the rest of the game. 3 for the season per player is an automatic ejection out of the league. 4 per team is an automatic forfeit of season.
Rules Court Catching the puck Face-offs Advantage All walls of the PHE are inbounds. Once the puck leaves the gym it is considered dead. Catching the puck The hands may be used only to catch an airborne puck, which must be dropped immediately with no advancement or directional placement. Face-offs Occur to start game, after each score, and held pucks. All face offs occur at midcourt. Advantage Keep playing through penalty if advantage maintained. Assess penalty after advantage played through.
Penalties Minor Penalty: 2 minute penalty without sub Player other than goalkeeper deliberately falls on puck. Goalkeeper who deliberately falls on puck outside of boundaries. Any player who freezes the puck with any part of the body or equipment to cause stoppage of play without being checked by an opponent. Tripping an opponent with stick, or body part. Deliberately knocks opponents stick out of their hands. Charging (similar to basketball). High Sticking (above the knee). Roughing/Holding. Any player (except goalie) touching the puck inside the goalie box.
Penalties Cont. Major Penalties: 5 minute penalty without sub Many of the previously mentioned “Minor” penalties can be considered “Major” at the discretion of the official. Elbowing/kneeing/spearing (stabbing w/stick). Butt ending and cross checking. Slashing. 2 Major penalties per person in one game equal an ejection. 3 per a team is a forfeit of the rest of the game. 3 for the season per player is an automatic ejection out of the league. 4 per team is an automatic forfeit of season.
Misconduct Penalty Shall be assessed on any player/non-player for obscene, profane, or abusive language directed toward the officials, opponents and/or IM officials/supervisors Shall be assessed on any player/non-player who deliberately throws any item or equipment prior, during or after the game.
Broken Stick A player whose stick is broken may not participate in the game until a new stick is obtained Minor Penalty will be imposed for an infraction of this rule Any player who slams their stick down in disgust will be assessed a Major Penalty regardless if the stick breaks in the process
