Words with suffixes -ant, -ent, -eer, -ist, -ian

What is a suffix A Suffix: A group of letters placed at the end of a word to change the meaning.

Likable = Adjective; like, easy to like Likable = Adjective; like, easy to like. Example: Amira is a likable girl. Assistant = Noun; assist, a person who gives help. Example: The office assistant answers the phone.

Consultant = Noun; consult, a person who gives advice to others on a particular subject. Example: I need to ask my consultant about the house that we want to buy.

Coolant = Noun; cool, liquid used to remove heat from something. Example: A car coolant is very important to avoid the over heating of the car engine.

Defendant = Noun; defend, a person who is accused in a court of law. Example: The defendant enters the court room in handcuffs.

Radiant = Adjective; radius, shining brightly. Example: The radiant sun warmed us.

Disinfectant = Noun; disinfect, something that kills germs. Example: Dettol products are excellent disinfectants, they protect us from germs.

Ignorant = Adjective, ignore, a person with no education. Example: An ignorant person always makes the wrong choices in life.

Absorbent = Adjective; absorb, something that takes in and holds liquid. Example: Sponges are good absorbents.

Confident= Adjective; confide, sure that something will happen. Example: I was confident that I will win the race.

Different= Adjective; differ, not the same. Example: This twin look so different from each other.

Engineer = Noun; engine, a person who plans systems, machines, buildings,…. Example: The engineers are talking about the building plan.

Activist= Noun; active, a person who supports a political idea. Example: The activists are protesting for the best of the country.

Cyclist = Noun; cycle, a person who rides a bicycle. Example: Now in Egypt, we can see female cyclists everywhere.

Motorist = Noun; motor, a person who drives a motorcycle, motorcycle car or car. Example: The motorist should follow the driving laws.

Pianist = Noun; piano, a person who plays the piano. Example: Omar Khayrat is a famous Egyptian pianist.

Typist = Noun; type, a person who writes on a typewriter. Example: the fastest typist in the world can type 217 words per minute.

Comedian = Adjective; comedy, a person who tells jokes or acts in a way that makes people laugh. Example: Ahmed Helmy is a great Egyptian comedian.

Electrician = Adjective; electricity, a person who works on electric wires and machines. Example: The electrician must be cautious, because his job is very dangerous.

librarian = Adjective; library, a person who works in a library. Example: a librarian can help us find any book we need from the library.

Musician = Adjective; music, a person who plays, sings or writes music Musician = Adjective; music, a person who plays, sings or writes music. Example: Michael Jackson was a unique musician, he wrote his songs, composed them and created his own dances.
