What is Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)? Reauthorized version of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), signed into law in 2015 by President Barack Obama. Represents an important step forward to improve the nation’s education system. Gives states the authorization to identify their own goals to address proficiency on tests, English-language proficiency and graduation rates.

Essa Cont’d The law maintains the annual testing requirement for Reading and Math in grades 3-8 and in high school, and grade-span testing in Science. It also maintains subgroup reporting and a 95 percent testing requirement. Provides more authority to states and limits federal mandates while maintaining a shared framework for K-12 accountability.

OVERVIEW OF TITLE I Title I, Part A is a federally funded program under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965. The purpose of Title I under ESSA is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high‐quality education and succeed on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.

TITLE I BUDGET Colquitt county school system receives funds from the federal government each year. Funds are allocated to schools based on the number of students eligible for free or reduced lunch (Colquitt County Schools uses Direct Certification) 1% if the district’s Title I funds are reserved for helping to get parents involved with their children’s education.

SCHOOLWIDE TITLE I PROGRAMS The purpose of schoolwide Title I programs is to improve the entire educational program in a school which should result in improving the academic achievement of all students, particularly the lowest achieving students. All schools in the Colquitt County School System are Schoolwide except for the Colquitt County Achievement Center.

As a Title I School-Wide program , we… Develop a School-Wide Plan Conduct a needs assessment/parent survey on the types of programs we offer and use parent input to guide our decision making on ways to help students We hold Parent workshops / presentations to train and inform parents about standards, assessments, etc… Use Title I Money to provide ALL students with services to help them achieve academic success We establish goals based on multiple pieces of data and determine how are we going to meet our goals through programs & interventions

School Curriculum Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) You can visit the GA DOE website – Georgia Standards to view more information about our standards for instruction and resources available. www.georgiastandards.org Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) Standards – for ELA and Math Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) Standards for Social Studies and Science Both GSE and GPS have Literacy Standards for all content areas.

College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) Georgia uses the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) for state accountability purposes. The CCRPI is like a REPORT CARD for schools. CCRPI has multiple indicators to determine a school’s performance, rather than using a single test score given at one point in time.

Parent and family engagement PLAN Colquitt County School System involves all parents in the decision making process as it relates to student achievement. A written parent and family engagement plan is developed jointly with the district, school, parents, and community stakeholders that describe how the school will carry out the requirements of Title I, Part A District plan includes the parts that would be found in the school level plan. The purpose of the plan to say how we are going to help our parents to help their child be successful.

SCHOOL/PARENT/STUDENT COMPACT Colquitt County Schools provide all parents the opportunity to be involved with the joint development of the school‐parent compact. The school‐parent compact outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement. The compact is the signed agreement between all parties—parent/student/school

PARENTS right to know Parents have the right to participate in their child’s education and to be informed on a regular basis about their child’s academic progress. Parents have the right to request the qualifications of their child’s teacher/paraprofessional.

PARENTS’ RIGHTS Parents have the right to provide input into how the parental involvement funds are spent. The district will incorporate suggestions from parents when making decisions about how funds are spent as appropriate and allowable.  Parents have the right to provide input in the development, review, and revision of district and school parent and family engagement plans, school‐parent compacts, schoolwide programs, and the district’s comprehensive improvement plan (clip).
