What are the required components of the Parent and Family Engagement Policy (PFEP)? Policy Involvement Describes the way the school will involve parents in the Title I program and the development of the school plan Shared Responsibilities for High Academic Achievement Outlines how parents, school staff, and students will partner in sharing the responsibility for student achievement Building Capacity for Involvement Describes how schools will broaden parents’ understanding of the state standards, curricula, and programs and services Accessibility Provides examples of how the school will accommodate parents’ needs Four parts to the Parent and Family Engagement Policy. School-Parent Compact

What must be in a School-Parent Compact? A description of the school's responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment to meet the academic achievement standards A description of the ways in which each parent will be responsible for supporting their children's learning, such as: monitoring attendance, monitoring homework completion, volunteering in their child's classroom, and participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children and positive use of extracurricular time Address the importance of communication between teachers and parents on an ongoing basis through, at a minimum — parent-teacher conferences, frequent reports to parents on their children's progress, reasonable access to staff, opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child's class, opportunities to observe of classroom activities Law does not say that signatures are needed.

Where can I find templates and resources to help my school meet these Title I Parent Engagement requirements? Templates for the Policy* and Compact are located on the Office of Parent and Community Services’ “Tools for Schools” Title I website: https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10427 *The California Department of Education has not released a new template for the Policy. Please adjust the template by changing the title to “Parent and Family Engagement Policy”.

SSC Approval of the SPSA Sample Minutes: Ms. Smith reviewed the SPSA in its entirety with the members of the SSC. A motion to accept the 2017-18 SPSA as written was made by Mr. Rodriguez, SSC Parent Member. The motion was seconded by Mrs. Chang, SSC Secretary. The SSC members voted 8 in favor and 2 opposed (Ms. Rios & Mr. Levi) to accept the 2017-18 SPSA. The motion to accept the 2017-18 SPSA passed. SAMPLE PROVIDED
