Private Applicator Competence Recognize common pests and damage caused       Read and understand the label (pesticide common names, pests controlled, timing/methods of application, safety precautions, PHI/REI, disposal procedures) Apply pesticides in according to label instructions (proper concentration taking into account area to be covered, speed at which application equipment will be driven, and the quantity used in given period) Recognize local environmental situations to avoid contamination Recognize poisoning symptoms and procedures to follow Know standards for the supervision of noncertified persons Understand the Worker Protection Standards Use personal protective equipment for handling of pesticides Understand the standards for storage of pesticides
