What WFPS has accomplished: SCHOLARSHIPS: From 1992 to present, WFPS has awarded a total of $72,500 in scholarships to students enrolled in a four year college program, working toward a degree in land surveying. Teaching with Spatial Technology (TwiST) working with NCEES matching funds and the thirteen WFPS states, we have expanded a successful program from the state of Washington that provides surveying related knowledge to elementary school teachers who will then inspire young students to consider a surveying related career. This year alone, we will be sponsoring about 24 teachers with a total program budget of up to $50,000. WESTERN FEDERATION OF PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS
What WFPS has accomplished: TEACHING WITH SPATIAL TECHNOLOGY (TwiST) 2001 NEW YORK LSAW, PLSO, and Oregon Institute of Technology WFPS – Dick Smith and Carla Meritt June 22-26, 2015 Clark College in Vancouver, WA Conference on Remote Sensing created the program in Albany, New York Concept is to “imbed” teachers with the understanding of our profession. The program teaches teachers about GIS and GPS in a practical hands on approach, and canned lesson plans they can use to expose kids to surveying. Geared toward middle and high school kids. It is a great blend with the NSPS Trig-Star program. A number of states work the two programs hand in hand. California send the winning teacher to the event. OIT (Tim Kent) brought the curriculum out west, along with PLSO and LSAW Westfed broadened the base and now most of the WFPS state are sending teachers each year to the program This year is June 22-26 WESTERN FEDERATION OF PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS
WESTERN FEDERATION OF PROFESSIONAL SURVEYORS That is the who what when, where for wfps. Personal perspective – WFPS has benefiting me with a broader network of surveyors. If I have a question or one of the other delegates has a question about how we practice our profession we can easily share the info. Our state organization has benefited its participation in WFPS based on the open dialog delegates have with neighboring states for issues such as joint conferences, and seminars.
