Active Listening By M.Krupa Shanker

That is why it is easy to go into Mind Drift People speak at 100 to 175 words per minute but they can listen intelligently at 600 to 800 wpm That is why it is easy to go into Mind Drift

The cure is Active Listening Therefore Let us examine the traits of Active Listeners

Spends more Time Listening than talking

Does not Finish the Sentence of others

Does not answer Questions with Questions

We all have them & Need to Control them Is Aware of Biases We all have them & Need to Control them

Never Daydreams or is Preoccupied with his own thoughts while listening to others

Lets the other speaker talk does not dominate the conversation

Plans Responses after the Person has finished Speaking Not while they are speaking

Provides Feedback but does not interrupt incessantly

Asks Open – Ended Questions Walks the person through the analysis & thus summarizes

Keeps the Conversation on what the speaker says Not on what interests him

Thus forcing himself to concentrate on what is being said Takes Brief Notes Thus forcing himself to concentrate on what is being said
