Black Hawk By Ben Blaha

Background Information My native American’s name is Black Hawk . It means be a large black hawk. His tribe name was the Sauk. He was born in the year 1767 and died in 1838.

Early Life The Black Hawk was born in the village of Saukenuk in Rock River. Black Hawk was born a great grandson of thunder who was an important principal chief among the Sauk.

Later Life Black Hack served as chief of a band of Sauk at their village of Saukenuk.

Interesting Information The British depended upon Native American allies to help them wage war. Among Black Hawk’s descendants was legendary athlete Jim Thorpe.
