OBJECTIVE To generate renewable energy using solar road panels and replace the current need for fossil fuels and to replace all petroleum-based asphalt roads, parking lots and driveways with Solar Road Panels that collect energy to be used by our homes and industries.

LITERATURE REVIEW 1. Title : “Solar Roadways” – Rebuilding our Infrastructure and Economy (May-Jun 2013 ) The purpose of this article is to introduce the innovative solar roadways, and to create awareness on how solar roadways work. 2. Title : “Solar Roadways” Innovating the Transportation and Energy Industry (11 Jun 2014) This paper provides idea on solar energy to replace all current petroleum-based asphalt roads, parking lots, and driveways with Solar Road Panels that collect energy to be used by our homes and businesses.

METHODOLOGY Solar roadways are roads which contain both solar panels and transmission lines covered in a glass outer surface. Solar roadways are composed of three layers namely the roads surface layer, the electronics layer, and the base plate layer. These layers working united produces clean renewable energy. Each Solar Road Panel (roughly 12’ by 12’) interlinks with neighboring panels to form the Solar Roadways system. The Solar Road Panels heat themselves for snow and ice removal in northern climates. Each Solar Road Panel uses some of its own power to light up embedded LEDs, which “paint” the road lines from beneath the road surface. All additional power (unused by the panels themselves) is sent “down line” to homes and businesses.

RESULT Load cell connected to a programmed micro controller glows LED when subjected to compression by an object. When load cell is high, the LED of the corresponding solar panel is also high.

OUTPUT

CONCLUSION The sun’s solar energy is thus converted into renewable energy and also the load cell positioned in each solar panel of the solar roadways help to find the presence of any vehicle or animal and the signal is sent to the micro controller which turns the LED of that particular panel on. The renewable energy from the solar roadways can be extended to the houses and buildings as power source.

FUTURE WORK Pavement, bridges, roadways, parking lots will be converted from asphalt roadways to solar roadways.

APPLICATION Solar roadways replaces the petroleum based asphalt roads, parking lots and driveways. Solar Road Panels that collect energy to be used by our homes and businesses. Solar Roadways will also features wildlife preservation, the elimination of impervious surfaces . Solar roadways reduces the need for conventional energy source and produces renewable energy for its own and also energy required for domestic purposes.
