Audibles To run a different play to the same side: 42 Trap (to the right) is the call, but the 3-tech. is now lined up on the left, so we will run 44 Lead (still to the right): Example “84” (any number that ends in “4”; we have no other play other than 44 Lead that ends in 4) *Pass plays serve as dummy calls

Odds and Ends The Trap is a great 3rd and long play! Take advantage of an upfield push rush and linebackers dropping early into pass coverage. (It will help set up your pass play on the next 3rd and long.) You can/should run the Trap wide to take advantage of upfield C-gap defensive ends. You can run Trap against double-A gap. Don’t forget to practice trapping a blitzing linebacker.

Odds and Ends The success of this play is largely dependent on the quality of the lead blocker! Good counter play to motion. Practice “worst case” scenarios: i.e., we would like to run the Lead play to a 1-technique, but are prepared to run it against a 3-technique (to stay consistent with his rules, the lead blocking back will have to block a defensive linemen).
