Algebra 1 Mr. Hochberg Day 23 Add incentives Homework competition How many bonuses everyone has Clean up bin Slide for getting materials away? Incentivize working on automaticity  Say, “keeping track of students not doing automaticity” How to get students to keep working on do now?  Tell students, that I need to increase their goal to more problems?

Review (Do Now) Total Time: 10 minutes Do 3 problems, raise your hand, repeat. Solve ALGEBRAICALLY 5 + Y = 13 2) Solve ALGEBRAICALLY 10 = K – 2 3) Solve ALGEBRAICALLY 36 = 3T 4) Distribute 5(R + R2) 5) Distribute (3 + T)(T – 5) 6) Solve using TABLES 4X = X - 4 7) Solve using TABLES 3D + 2D – 1 = 4 8) Solve using GRAPHS 3X + 2X = 14 – 4X 9) Solve using GRAPHS 4Y – 3 = 2Y + 5 - Y

Record Automaticity Results Total Time: 1 minute

Whiteboards Away! Total Time: 1 minute Make sure the bins look like this!

Agenda Total Time: 10 seconds 20 minutes Opening Routine (Review, Automaticity, Good Things, Survey Says…, Objective) 25 minutes Two Step Equations 5 minutes Brain Break Numbered Heads 10 minutes Closure (Objective Check, Shout Outs, Next day HW Review, Exit Ticket, Quote of the Day)

Good Things Total Time: 2 minutes

Shout Outs! Total Time: 1 minute Period 1 Shout out to Tyra and Nate for collaborating together to solve equations algebraically. Period 2: Shout out to Ma’khai for his strong effort in solving equations algebraically. Shout out to Elijah for coming to coach class! HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUANA! Juana: Feliz Cumpleaños! Period 3: Shout out to Ayoola and Shanita for crushing the Kahoot yesterday.

Objective Total Time: 2 minutes OBJECTIVE: SWBAT solve (two step) equations algebraically by practicing Algebra Word Problems MASTERY GOAL: At least 6 correct on the “Two Step Equations” Worksheet. TURN AND TALK What is today’s objective in your own words? How does it relate to what we have been doing? Is there any new vocabulary?

Agenda Total Time: 10 seconds 20 minutes Opening Routine (Review, Automaticity, Good Things, Survey Says…, Objective) 25 minutes Two Step Equations 5 minutes Brain Break Numbered Heads 10 minutes Closure (Objective Check, Shout Outs, Next day HW Review, Exit Ticket, Quote of the Day)

Two Step Equations Total Time: 25 minutes Teacher Model #1 Take NOTES! When 1 I say go, take 6 minutes to silently and independently do numbers 2 – 6. Now let’s share out number 5 and number 6.

Two Step Equations Total Time: 25 minutes Now let’s look at number 7. When I say go, take 3 minutes to work on number 8 and 9 with a partner. Raise your hand if you are done early.

Agenda Total Time: 10 seconds 20 minutes Opening Routine (Review, Automaticity, Good Things, Survey Says…, Objective) 25 minutes Two Step Equations 5 minutes Brain Break Numbered Heads 10 minutes Closure (Objective Check, Shout Outs, Next day HW Review, Exit Ticket, Quote of the Day)

Brain Break Total Time: 4 minutes Two girls were born to the same mother, on the same day, at the same time, in the same month and year. YET, they are not twins. How is this possible? ANSWER: They are part of a set of triplets.

Brain Break Total Time: 4 minutes ANSWER: Up for grabs

Agenda Total Time: 10 seconds 20 minutes Opening Routine (Review, Automaticity, Good Things, Survey Says…, Objective) 25 minutes Two Step Equations 5 minutes Brain Break Numbered Heads 10 minutes Closure (Objective Check, Shout Outs, Next day HW Review, Exit Ticket, Quote of the Day)

Numbered Heads Total Time: 20 minutes You should already be in groups of 4 Every person should be assigned a number I write an equation – you have to solve in 1 minute I call a number – that person has to present.

Agenda Total Time: 10 seconds 20 minutes Opening Routine (Review, Automaticity, Good Things, Survey Says…, Objective) 25 minutes Two Step Equations 5 minutes Brain Break Numbered Heads 10 minutes Closure (Objective Check, Shout Outs, Next day HW Review, Exit Ticket, Quote of the Day)

Objective Check Total Time: 1 minute OBJECTIVE: SWBAT solve two step equations algebraically by practicing Algebra Word Problems. Whole Class Did we meet today’s objective?

Homework Review Total Time: 2 minutes Take today’s homework Ask clarifying questions

Shout Outs Total Time: 3 minutes Take one post it from your bin and write A positive shout out to another student OR A way you used growth mindset (GM) today Example 1: “Shout out to Brandon for helping me understand how to graph.” Example 2: “I used GM today by trying to solve without a calculator even though I always use a calculator.”

Quote of the Day 15 seconds Reflection Went alright for 3rd period, but not 1 and 2. Tried saying, “let me explain this in 3 minutes” was effective. First two periods were weak in single step problems, so they mightily struggled with two step equations. Didn’t really do the word problems. Need to be more conceptual?

Exit Ticket Total Time: 5 minutes

Clean your area! Total Time: 1 minute Make sure the bins look like this!
