Building a Simple Offense around your Players Staff: Steve Disler OC, WR, DB Nick Hoffmann DC, OL,DL Brad Whitcomb Head JV, OL, OLB Zack Lozier K,P, DL Chase Welker RB, ILB

THE ONLY THING WE HAVE TO OFFER IS FUN EVERYDAY Toby Vallas 309-335-6062 / tvallas@dist265.com Second head coaching job Knoxville: had not won a playoff game in 14 years Year 2 went to quarter finals, won 4 playoff games while there Our playoff teams averaged 5 pass plays per game Farmington: 2014 inherited 35 players after serving as DC during 2A quarterfinal appearance 2016: 11-1 most win in school history and went to 3A quarters 70+ kids in the program QB had 14th most yards and 15th most TDs in IHSA history Very Strong Track background that influences our program

Personnel 2015 2016 QB: Great Athlete/Runner Rushing: 891 Yards 10 TDs Passing: 45% 1287 yds. 17/11 TD (Single game 548 yds. run/pass) QB: Great Passer Rushing 461 yds. 4TDs Passing: 68% 3412 yds. 42/12 TD RB: Quick/ Great Hands RB: Bruiser WR: Young & Sure handed (Single game 16 rec. 300 yds.) WR: Fast / Explosive (WR 1245 yds.) OL: Solid

Things We Believe Offense and Defense must be Flexible ( its high school) Must stay true to your identity at the same time Make it simple for OL (1 run play, 1 protection make up 99% of our O) Plays must have constraints Play kids at natural positions (Except QB) Can not make a mistake in choosing a QB Build Speed over Strength Forget maxes, concentrate on athleticism and ability to do the job 13 contact days per summer none in June Weight training: 1/3 traditional- 1/3 Olympic- 1/3 Absolute Speed Coaches are responsible for getting guys open!

Tailoring your Offense Find things players do well Find things they like to do Find things that are easy for their skill set Find bang for your buck

GT/ GTQ Responsibilities (Foundation Play) Guard and Tackle kick and wrap GT has the option to pull GTQ shows split flow by the 2 backs Can be productive with any type player

GT / GTQ Video

Fast Screen Responsibilities Any QB and any WR Our most effective play Usually thrown to #1 QB- catch and throw WR- jab and catch, get 5 yards #2- block the most dangerous player OL- Run through the pursuit lanes

Missile Screen Responsibilities Any QB and any WR QB pumps the F #1 Drives and retraces #2 kicks defender #1 Tackles-Pass set up field PSG- kicks #2 C- climbs BSG- cleans up the chase

4 Vertical Responsibilities Easy quick throw for any QB Very easy reads Easy routes #1 down the numbers on a go #2 down the hashes on a hunt Can tag and get RB involved Great out of 3x1 Great RPO as a compliment

QB Pin &Pull Sweep Responsibilities Covered linemen Pin Uncovered Pull RB Leads Can use motion or unbalanced sets Usually with a TE QB must be a good runner Great RPO as a compliment

QB Pin &Pull Sweep Diagram

QB Pin &Pull Sweep Video

Advantages of RPOs Great for a QB that struggles with pass reads or does not throw a crisp ball Usually 1 WR involved Opens up a struggling run game Can get guys wide open

RPO (Backside GT/Zone) Responsibilities GT/ zone to the left by OL ,RB, QB QB reads backside 5 tech for the pull WRs on the right run fast screen QB pulls and reads defender #2 for the screen throw

RPO (Backside GT/Zone) Diagram

RPO (Backside GT/Zone) Video

RPO (Front side P&P ) Responsibilities Covered linemen Pin Uncovered Pull RB flashes across QB’s face QB read #2 defender run/pass WR #1 runs a go WR #2 runs an out

RPO (Front side P&P ) Diagram

RPO (Front side P&P ) Video

RPO (Front side Power Read ) Responsibilities PST Same rules as GT PSG Same Rules as GT C Same rules as GT BSG Skip pull to PSLB BST Cut off run through QB Ride and read PS5 Pull and read defender #2 for screen WRs run fast screen

RPO (Front side Power Read ) Diagram

RPO (Front side Power Read ) Video

Rocket Fast Screens were not as successful Quick hitter to the edge Traded blocking ability for speed Quick hitter to the edge PST/PSG 45 degree step 4 yards up field C/BSG/BST get head across and up field PSWR’s based on defense

Rocket Diagram

Rocket Video

Rocket Gator Option Get our best athletes with the ball in space Forced the defense to shift if they wanted to double cover Stretched the defense laterally and vertically with GT/Rocket/Go’s Lot of bang for the buck

Scramble Drill Rules Deep becomes short Short becomes deep Or Drift As soon as the ball does not come out on time Big plays have come for us off the drift

Scramble Drill Video

Designed Deep Shots If WRs do not have the speed to get open Lets the coach be creative Allows QB to take the easy stuff Usually 1 read
