Ricki Porter Dictionary from A-Z room107 5th grade A- Algebraic expression is an expression that contains at least one variable. EX: 3x + 8

B- Bar graph that uses vertical or horizontal bars to display data. EX:

C- circumference is the distance around a circle. EX: Similar

D- Divisible can be divided by a number without leaving a remainder. ex: 18 IS DIVISIBLE BY 3.

E- Equation is a mathematical sentence that shows that two expressions are equivalent. Ex: X + 4 = 7 6 + 1 = 10 - 3

Ex: 7 is a factor of 21 since 7 x 3 = 21 F – factor is a number that is multiplied by another number to get a product. Ex: 7 is a factor of 21 since 7 x 3 = 21

G – Greatest common factor is the largest common factor of two or more given numbers. Ex: the gfc of 27 and 45 is 9.

H – a hexagon is a six – sided polygon.

Ex: I – intersecting lines is lines that cross exactly one point. Images may be subject to copyright.

J – joule is a unit of energy. Ex:

K – kilometer is a unit of length, the common measure of distance equal to 1000 meters, and equivalent to 3280.8 or 621 miles. Ex:

L – linear equation is an equation whose solutions form a straight line on a coordinate plane. ex: y=2x + 1

M & N Numerical expression Multiplication property of zero Numerical expression The property that states that the product of any number and 0 is 0. EX: 6x0=0 -5 x 0 = 0 An expression that contains only numbers and operations. EX: [2 x 3] + 1

O & P Obtuse angle is an angle whose measure is greater than 90◦ but less than 180◦. EX: Parallel lines is lines in a plane that do not intersect. EX: Lines

Q & R Quadrilateral is a four- sided polygon. EX: Ratio is a comparison of two quantities by division. EX: 12 to 25, 12:25 12/25.

S & T Scale is the ratio between two sets of measurements. EX: 1 cm: 5 mi Terminating decimal a decimal number that ends or terminates. EX: 6.75

U & V Unit rate is a rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit. EX: 10 cm per minute Variable is a symbol used to represent a quantity that can change. EX: In the expression 2x + 3, x is the variable.

W & X Width is how wide something is . EX: X-axis is the horizontal axis on a coordinate plane. EX:

Y & Z Y-axis is the vertical axis on a coordinate plane. EX: Zero pair is a number and its opposite, which add to 0. EX: 18 and -18
