2016-2017 Legend Wrestling

Wrestling is a lifestyle. Philosophy Philosophy Wrestling is a lifestyle. In its nature, wrestling will reveal the true character of the individual. Wrestling, unlike any other sport teaches self-discipline, teamwork, leadership skills and life lessons. While success at the high school level can be determined by number of wins, the path that is taken in order to gain those wins is how success can truly be measured. Through sacrifice, physical exhaustion and determination, wrestling student athletes will discover what he or she is indeed capable of, both mentally and physically.

Program Focus Attitude. Effort. Always Above the Line Behavior Attitude. Effort. Always Above the line behavior: Core Values Respect Accountability Selfless Integrity Below the line behavior Blame- Blame others for our mistakes Complain- Complain about situations Defend- Defend our actions when we make a mistake

Kids are comfortable being uncomfortable 16-17 Team Focus Mental Toughness Kids are comfortable being uncomfortable Mentally push through physical exertion Accountability

16-17 Team Focus 2. Attitude and Effort Kids can control these two things If these are at the level of expectation, they will be successful Positive self talk- why are we doing this?

Making a lineup Wrestle offs Will open season with a seeded bracket- order is made from that tournament. Held on a weekly basis- Monday/ Tuesday/ Wednesday- 3:15-3:40.- On challenging wrestler A varsity wrestler has to lose two times in the same week to lose their spot If a varsity wrestler wins Monday and Tuesday- retain spot- No Wed challenge Lower level wrestlers can lose their spot with only one loss a week If a lower level wrestler wins Monday and Tuesday- retain spot- No Wed challenge Cannot challenge above your spot- Ex: Level III wrestler cannot challenge varsity before beating jv wrestler

Making a lineup- Continued Any behavior deemed by the coach to be below the line may result in a wrestler losing his/ her spot on the varsity lineup. Any act of “quitting” on the mat will result in the loss of the spot. That wrestler will be demoted immediately If the top wrestler in a given weight class is deemed not ready for varsity, that wrestler will not wrestle varsity Coaches have final say- Coaches have final say on lineups for the better of team and or the individual.

Attendance Unexcused absence- wrestler runs the risk of losing their spot Two unexcused absence- wrestler loses their spot Excessive number of unexcused absence- wrestlers will be dismissed from the team

Weight We do not force our wrestlers to cut weight We desire our wrestlers to maintain a healthy body weight that allows for personal growth. We will discuss with our wrestlers what may be a proper weight class for them Personalized decent plan.

Academics Academics come before wrestling. Unacceptable to miss practice to complete homework. It is up to the athlete to be academically prepared in order to attend practice. I will open my room at 7:15 every morning and both lunches everyday for students to study. Athletes with a class below a “C” will need to be in study hall 7:15- D205, until grades are up.
