Kennedy & Nixon Debate The debate between Kennedy and Nixon was the first to be televised. The debate took place on September 26, 1960. New Frontier The term “New Frontier” refer to the economic and social program of presidency of John F.Kennedy. Main Goal of new frontier: Increase federal aid to education, Provide health to increase elderly, Create department of Urban ex)Kennedy supported measures such as the Area Redevelopment Act of 1961, which gave financial assistance to areas such as West Virginia, where poverty was rampant.

Peace Corps Founded on March 1, 1961 It’s a volunteer program that is run by the U.S. government. The stated mission of the Peace Corps includes providing technical assistance, helping people outside the U.S. to understand American culture, and helping Americans to understand the cultures of other countries. The work is generally related to social and economic development. Volunteers work with governments, schools, non-profit organizations, non-government organizations and entrepreneurs in education, business, information technology, agriculture, and the environment.

Buzz Aldrin is an American engineer and former astronaut, and the second person to walk on the Moon. He was the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 11, the first manned lunar landing in history. The Space Race was a 20th-century competition between two Cold War rivals, the Soviet Union (USSR) and the United States (US), for supremacy in spaceflight capability

Fidel Castro In 1959, Castro used guerilla warfare to successfully overthrow Cuban leader Fulgencio Batista, and was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Cuba. As Prime Minister of Cuba, Castro’s government established covert military and economic relations with the Soviet Union, leading to the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962. He served as Prime Minister until 1976, when he became the President of Cuba, he served as President until 2008.

Bay of Pigs Invasion 1961 It was a failed military invasion of Cuba undertaken by CIA-sponsored paramilitary group Brigade 2506 April 17,1961.

In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power in an armed revolt that overthrew Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. This invasion was a major embarrassment for U.S. foreign policy and in Kennedy’s presidency. The Bay of Pigs 1961 The failed invasion strengthened Castro’s leadership as well as his ties with the Soviet Union and eventually led to the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. This was intended to overthrow Fidel Castro and his communist government. The CIA had wanted to keep it a secret for as long as possible, but a radio station on the beach broadcast every detail of the operation to listeners across Cuba.

Alliance for Progress 1961 A 10-year, multibillion-dollar aid program for Latin America proposed by Kennedy. This was designed to improve U.S. relations with Latin America, which had been severely damaged in recent years during that time. Latin American republics were disappointed with U.S. economic resistance after World War 2.

The Berlin Wall 1961 On August 13, 1961, the Communist government of the German Democratic Republic (GDR, or East Germany) began to build a barbed wire and concrete “Antifaschistischer Schutzwall” or “anti-fascist bulwark”, between East and West Berlin. The official purpose of the Berlin Wall was to keep Western “fascists” from entering East Germany and undermining the socialist state, but it primarily served the objective of stemming mass defections from East to West.
